1607.0. "Dallas???" by POBOX::RAHEJA (Dalip Raheja @CPO) Tue Nov 10 1992 11:40

I will be in the Dallas area on Sunday with a customer and would like
to find out about some reasonable(cheap) courses around the airport.
If you have phone numbers so that I can make a reservation for the
afternoon, it would be very helpful.

    Thanks,

There is an excellent course right on the airport...called the Bear.
Rated as one of the best in Texas. Not expensive...associated with the
    Hyatt I think.

Re:-1 the course you mentioned was Bear Creek. It will cost you about
$45-$50. There are two courses. East and West. If you want cheaper,
Grapevine Muni is excellent but tough to get on. $16-$20. All three are
    excellent tracks.

If you need more info, give me a price range and I'll get you a better
    list.

    Ken,

< $35 sounds about right. What kind of course is Riverside??

Riverside is excellent. One of my favorite muni's. Its in the $35
range and its just south of the airport. You will fly right over it
    coming in.

Is Tenison Park (AKA "Tension Park" - home of the high rollin'
hustlers) in Dallas ? Don't know what the course is like, but in the
annals of golf gambling and unique characters, this may be THE sacred
place in "Murica." Stay away from any guy in size 13 white Foot-Joys
that carries a 1-iron, or a homeless guy with a golf bag that looks
like a quiver. If you see a guy playing with a hammer or garden tools,
DO NOT play with him for cash...

    re/ 1607.5

i can't recall if this is a tennis line (bobby riggs) or
a golf line (lee trevino) but:

if a golfer/tennis player bets he can beat you with a skillet,
    he probably CAN!

trevino also said, relative to hustlers,
'nervous is having to make a $50 putt and only having $10
    in your pocket"

Jack, Tenison is the one you have read about. Lee Trevino is the one
that made it famous. One of my best friends is the pro there and its a
nice tract(s) 36 holes owned by the City of Dallas. One of the better
courses run by the city. Of course it in the shape that any city course
    would be in.

Lee was the one hustling there before he joined the tour. I've only
played each course one time but everyone has got a Trevino story to
    tell.

Trevino is also a legend among Marines as he served in the corps during
the 50s. I cannot recall any Staff NCO or "Bronco" who didn't know Lee
personally (sort of like the climbing list of attendees of Ted W's last
    game).
