| | Hogan was sold by Cosmo Int'l. (The people who bought/sold Pebble
Beach for a $300 million loss) to AMF. AMF immediately cashiered a
whole bunch of top salesmen (I knew a few personally, and all were
doing well), and the National Sales Mgr. (a real close friend who had
    22 years with Hogan).

Hogan himself is a figurehead (and does have a lot to say about club
design - fortunately...) who had nothing to do with it. In fact, my pal
was slated to meet with him yesterday to just rehash things. Over the
years he has gotten to know Mr. Hogan pretty well, so he wanted to say
    goodbye in person.

I know how the Hogan company and these salesmen were doing - and they
were doing pretty well. However, they had a few bozos at the top (sound
familiar ?) who wanted to be surrounded by "yes men." So - those with
other viewpoints were dismissed. To all this I say - "screw 'em, I
won't play with their stuff." As fast as I can unload my Hogan irons,
I'll get sdomethin' else. I'm not such a good player that it makes that
much difference what I play with, but principles DO make a difference
    to me !

Again, I have a personal involvement in this. I think Hogan makes
great equipment, and I won't try to dissuade others from playing it. I
    just won't buy it.

| | jack,

Go for the Lynx or the Wilson Ultra 45. Good for you and principles.
Does this include other Voit equipment as well as balls??. You might
be in for a whole new outfit.

| | I dunno about Lynx - used to be garbage. Freddy Couples could play with
a rake, anyway. When you say Wilson Ultra 45, is 45 the shaft ? I just
need to know what equates to a Dynamic S 300 in the Ultra irons...

| 1550.5 | Try the Parallax | CGOOA::DURNIN |  | Wed Jul 08 1992 17:47 | 10 |
| | Good for you Jack,

I have an Uncle who used the Lynx Parallax for a few years and then
sold them for Spalding Cannons (I don't know what prompted this except
perhaps the propaganda). Boy is he kicking himself now. It's been 3
years and he has scrapped the Cannons and if he could afford it he'd
buy the Parallax again. He's a good golfer for 66 years of age playing
    still to about a 10.

    Consider the Parallax....JD

| | Jack,
I have just switched to them after using forged perimeter weighted
clubs (Macgregor JNP's). I really like them alot. I don't hit them
particularly farther although I do get more spin from them then I did
with my JNP's. I have also dropped my handicap from an 8 to a 5 since
I started using them. My trend is to a 4. I am also playing alot too
which may account for the drop. But the overall feeling is that they
are very nice. Rich Phillips has last years model that I believe he is
trying to sell. You might want to talk to him if you are looking for a
    deal.

    Mike.

| 1550.7 | stiff! | PCAE::FITTERMAN |  | Thu Jul 09 1992 11:50 | 7 |
| | Oh yeah I forgot. Wilson sells these things with 3 different shaft
flex's. I swing hard but took the medium flex (2.8 is the
designation). The 2.0 is the tour stiffness which seemed a little to
    stiff even for me.

    Mike.

Just ordered a set. I had a hit with 5 iron and 1 metal wood.

I noticed that the five iron hit very high the 1 wood hit straight

and low. The five iron was very long about 15-20 meters longer.

From 160meters out and had it spin back about 2 meters. I ordered

Stiff shafts on the woods because when I swung harder they tended to

pull hook. They feel great and look good.
