| re. -1 Sorry, but I've never been to Cape Code...
As for Cape Cod, does anyone have a list of reasonable courses on
the cape that are worth playing at? I'm heading down there next week,
and would like to bring the sticks...

| Mike,
Dennis Pines and Dennis Highlands are great courses and are
pretty reasonable for the wallet. Both are in Dennis but I don't
know the names of streets their located on. Check with the Chamber
of comerce. Hope this helps a little.

| IMO, Cranberry Valley is very overrated. If you can hit it at all, it's
not much of a challenge. Nice place, and pretty, but if you want
"action," play Dennis Pines from the "tips..."

| This is in reply to 2 previous replies in this note.
Farm Neck is the name of the course on the Vineyard. Is is a nice
course with a couple of holes running along the ocean. I believe it is
difficult and expensive to get on in mid summer. I played it last
October and it was $50+ then. It is worth the try however.
As far as Cranberry valley goes, it is one of my favorites. I have not
been there this year so I can't comment on the conditions. Fee's last
year were $28, and it is very tough to get on in the mornings. You can
make reservations no more than 48 hours in advance by phone.
Good luck, and have fun.

| I played there last Wednesday. Conditions are perfect. It's a beautiful course.
$32 for 18, $15 for as much as you can play after 4pm. We went for the after 4pm
rate, gave out ticket to the starter at 3:35 and got out at 3:45 with enough time
to play 18. Try the gold tees..

1541.9 | Great weather made the trip! | INDEV1::GSMITH | I need two of everything | Mon Sep 21 1992 10:58 | 47 |

Just returned from 4 days of golf on the Cape. Great time, great
weather, great bunch of guys. I'll briefly summarize the trip.
Wednesday - Ridge Club (Sandwich)
This course is a private track. It has man-made moguls(sp?) on EVERY
hole. They really became a pain the the neck after a while. We stopped
saying 'good drive' after a while, because the lies we were getting
were TUFF- uphill, downhill, sidehill, etc. The ruff was also TUFF..
long and thick. Manicured course... but it just wasn't that fun to
play. I was glad to play it once though... GREAT layout. Let's just
say it tests your golf skill.
Thursday - Ballymeade
NARROW is the word for this course. You can get tee times no problem.
This course is in financial trouble. Bring lots of balls. I played this
course last year as well... and it ate me alive both times. It's in
GREAT condition... but the greens were topdressed which caused the ball
to pick up alot of sand. In my opinion this course needs alot of
thinning out in the first ten yards of the woods. If you go off the
fairway, you generally loose the ball. I'm a 14, so I had problems with
this course as well.
Friday - Cranberry Valley
Much more open then the first two courses. Can call for tee times two
days in advance. It play slow.... (many seniors on the course). The
greens on the front side were terrible. I hadn't played this course in
about 6 years, and the conditions have gone DOWNhill. Still a good
layout, and you can walk. (The previous two courses required carts).
Scored MUCH better here, even with the greens in bad shape. Rough is
shorter, woods are thinned out. It basically designed so that everyone
can score near their 'normal' handicap.
Saturday - Cape Code Countryclub
Public. This course is in GREAT shape. Fairly open, good rough line,
etc. Again, you can score well here. Greens in great shape, all around
fun place to golf. We had 7:00Am tee times and finished in about 4
hours.
Wonderful four days. Didn't score too well (especially on Wed and
Thurs)... but had alot of fun.

1541.10 | Cape Cod CC. taking tee-times | INDEV1::GSMITH | I need two of everything | Wed Dec 16 1992 10:54 | 8 |

Hey... Just heard from a friend that the Cape didn't get ANY
snow this past weekend. Courses in pretty good shape! So..
if you look out the window and see 2 feet of snow, but still
'need' to play golf, many Cape courses are OPEN.

My guess is that most courses in the south shore don't have any snow.
Anybody there who knows what is open?
