1467.1 | at least looking for a change | RUSAVD::PAPPAS | Jay Pappas | Wed Mar 04 1992 13:48 | 25 |

I currently have a set of Ping Eye's that I have been playing for the last
ten years. Over the winter, I was going to have them re-shafted as over the
years I have played a lot of golf as well as getting on the new technology band
wagon and wanting to try something different. But after some thinking, I have
decided to investigate something else besides PINGs.....and hold the re-shaft
idea.
Additionally, I have never felt comfortable with the PING short irons as there
is truely no feel and I have had situations where 'similar' swings/feels have
resulted in significant differences in distances. As far as long irons, I
have in the past and probably in the future will continue to carry and fully
utilize my PING 1-iron. I feel that I have more control over a 1-iron than a
wedge sometimes.......
But back to the topic.....new clubs that I am looking at....actually, I am
looking at everything anything from forged to perimeter weighted cavity......
I have tried Hogan Edges, Wilson Staffs, Cobra's, Wilson Ultra's, RAM ??,
Titliest DCIs, Merit Fusions, 845's, Taylor Made ICW5 and I am sure a few
others. I have made the rounds to a few area shops and have been limited to
hitting 5 irons on the mats to indoor nets.
So, no decision yet, certainly like the feel of the Titliest DCIs, Taylor Made,
Wilson Staffs......headed to Florida for two weeks at the end of the month to
try some more testing.........

Have you tried the MacGregor JNP's. I'm not sure if they're even being
sold anymore because Jack in no longer affiliated directly with
MacGregor. I liked them because they were forged but not offset. Nice
look and feel. Now if I could only do something with them.

1467.3 | JNP's .... have not seen them yet ! | RUSAVD::PAPPAS | Jay Pappas | Wed Mar 04 1992 17:19 | 6 |

I have not seen them in the shops that I have stopped at. Nevada Bob's in
Westboro and Hanover, New England Golf in Marlboro and Auburn...or the Golf
Shop in Ashland..... but I'll keep looking !
Thanks

| Pappas could shoot a 75 with a sledgehammer and 2 lawn rakes. When he said he
has trouble judging distances with the short irons, he is talking about
mis-hitting a 125 yard shot 125 1/2 yards. In other words, he is awesome....
Quit work, join the PGA tour and keep the Pings....

thanks bob......quit work, join tour....keep pings .......
.......sounds like the solution to all my problems ........
but anyway, still searching and might be defecting, I'm headed to
florida for two weeks at the end of the month and will be doing some
testing....who knows !

1467.6 | Try John Rielys !! | RAYBOK::COOPER | One-ton Tomato ! | Thu Mar 12 1992 13:09 | 8 |
| Having played a few rounds with Jay when he was out here in California
last year I can attest to his ability to play with a rake and a stick.
By the way Jay, Van Buskirk has grass in the fairways again !! Amazing
what a little rain will do. Try Rielys Jay !! I have hit Pings, 845's,
and a few others and none of them give me the distance nor accuracy of
my John Rielys. ( I am also carrying a ping 1-iron though !!)

1467.7 | John Rileys .... have not seem them in the east ? | NAPIER::PAPPAS | Jay Pappas | Thu Mar 12 1992 13:30 | 17 |

I have heard/read about the Rileys in Golf Digest but I have not seen them in
shops in this area (east) and when I was on my extended visit to the west coast
I saw the Riley Shop in Monterey but did not stop in as I seemed happy with the
Pings.....
But times change, also had back surgery last summer, so I have had to much
down time from golf and started to think about new technology and the fact
that my 10 year old Pings have seen a lot of golf ....that it is time for
something new.......
Van Buskirk, rain and grass....sounds like a combination that could make for
added fun.....I am sure you're eating the place up.......
...play with a rake and a stick.....that's how I play the traps anyway !

1467.8 | Mystery 9-iron !! | RAYBOK::COOPER | One-ton Tomato ! | Mon Mar 16 1992 18:20 | 7 |
| One note I should make about my Rileys, I have never figured out
the 9-iron. Every other club is very predictable as far as distance
but with the 9 I'm never sure if it is going to go 105 or 140 yards.
The first couple of months I had it drilled for 125 yards but now,
who knows.

1467.9 | mysterious 8-9-pw.......sounds like my pings ! | RUSAVD::PAPPAS | Jay Pappas | Mon Mar 16 1992 18:42 | 13 |
|
the biggest problem I have is that I have to great a variance in the short
irons.....in the past i have hit too many rocket shots with a 9 iron (150 yds),
the ball just jumps off the club......so I get 145-155 and am thinking 9 iron
and have had too many come up 5 yds short......
it's probably the swing (golfer) but it gives me a reason to travel to all the
shops and try new clubs, hit balls and get ready for a trip to florida next
week !
looking for more consistancy,
jay
