Save your DEC dollars and get ready to place your orders!!
Karsten is at it again. PING is ready to unveil a new ZING iron. It's
supposed to be a radical new oversized iron with some type of flange.
According to Karsten, its as radical as the PING Eye was to the golfing
world. The company started taking orders at the PGA show - sight
unseen - and sold 5000 sets. The reason for not unveiling the club or
even showing a picture of it was to prevent the component folks from
duplicating it. It has been approved for play by the USGA.
The golf industry has so much confidence in PING that they would place
orders for 5000 sets, sight unseen. That's Marketing!!
I guess it will retail for a few buck per club more than the PING Eyes.

I heard about the new Ping Zings last week myself. The owner of the
golf shop showed me the letter from Karston stating that the clubs
would cost $51.00 (pro shop cost). I would think $70.00 per club is
about right.
The other "rumor" that I heard was that Ping was experimenting with
a metal driver, and might be out in the fall(?!?). Anybody hear
anything similar to that?

Interesting to hear that PING may try a metal wood. As good a
reputation as PING irons have (I play with them), it's rare to see
anyone using their woods. They are just plain ugly and don't have
any reputation at all (that I've heard) compared to their irons.
Maybe they're trying to get that piece of the market via metal woods.

Well then, consider me rare. Even rarer than that, I have a graphite
Ping driver. I'll part with it only after I'm convinced I can hit
something else equally as well. Before using it, coming out of the tee
box was the worst part of my game. Now, instead of slicing the ball I
have a power fade. Still can't get the ball to hook, but I do
occaisionally hit the ball straight.
I only have the driver and have never tried the other woods. I figured
when I bought the driver that because it has a big head, I could see it
better as it came thru the ball. I even thought about painting a white
VEE just for that purpose but as yet haven't. I may this year.
To say that the Ping woods are ugly is certainly argueable. But to me,
what was really ugly was my drive and subsequent score before I had the
Ping. I'll be looking into these Ping ZING's
