| This seemed like a place to recount a little tale that may or may not
hit a funny bone or two. Place Green Meadow on the South back with the
3 new holes - AMEN corner.
First it was this nine and those holes that my league match play hopes
ended. I was playing my ol' buddy Larry getting 3 strokes on 6,7,8 and
was one up after 5, lost next two and hit my drive left (on 8 ) of
the out of bounds markers for #7. So Larry says, better hit another
and shows me the card and sure enough it simply says - out of bounds
marked by white stakes. We have played the same hole for 5 years,
never out of bounds and now this. The 4some agreed, no penalty but it
shook me up enough to blow another hole. But this leads to the funny
story.
I took a vacation day to break my slump and played same 9 teaming up
with 3 play for fun types. As long as they repair divots I have no
problem and since rarely does an approach shot land on the green ball
marks are not a particular problem either. However, one of the three
liked to harass the other two about playing by the rules; the friendly
harassment type of thing.
Sure enough on 8, mr. "rules" hits left of the #7 stakes and simply
continues shooting never dreaming (and rightly so) that he may be out
of bounds. So while walking up to 9th tee I show the other two the
card and step back and watch the fireworks.
The funny thing was that the bantering that ensued was about whether he
should have been assessed a 1 stroke penalty whereas if he doesn't hit
another tee shot it should be 2.
Oh well, I guess you had to be there but I enjoyed this little sting.
