A friend of mine is looking for a beginner set of right-handed golf clubs. The problem she having is matching a set to her height. She is only 5-feet tall. If anyone can help her find a set of clubs please let me know. Ken MTWAIN::WHEELER

Ken, See if Ian Woosman has an old set in the cellar? Seriously though, I think womens standard clubs are cut a 1/2" shorter than a standard mens set. If she is just getting started I would just go with a standard set of womans clubs. Pete

Ken, we have a store down here in Orlando that sells women starter sets (1,3 woods 3,5,7,9,putter) for $99.00 Tour Model is the brand on the irons so filling out the set should be no problem. As far as fitting for height it should be a simple matter of cutting the shaft down a bit. BTW did you grow up in Ayer Ma??

Ladie's clubs are one inch shorter than men's and are usually made with a more flexible shaft and slightly smaller grips. I build and repair clubs as a hobby and can make just about anything from components. Also, ladie's petite are 1 1/2" shorter than men's. If you're interested, irons are about $20/club and metal woods are about $35/club. These would be good quality clubs with True Temper shafts and Golf Pride grips and should last through many years of golfing. To get started, I'd suggest something like a 3 and 5 wood, 5-7-9 irons, a sand wedge and putter. Others could be added later if desired. I can be reached at home: (508)886-6359 at work: DTN 225-4706 (4pm-midnight) or: SCOMAN::TREMBLAY Good luck getting started. John Tremblay (The Old School Golfer)

P.S. I forgot to mention in my last reply - I live in central Massachusetts. If you are not near here, any clubmaker should be able to give you a similar deal. JT - TOSG |
