1363.0. "Golf Gadgets & Accessories List" by MKFSA::STEVENS (Dave Stevens) Tue Sep 10 1991 19:30

    I've searched through this notes file looking for something about
    golf gadgets and accessories and I came up empty handed. If the
    moderator does not object I'd like to make this note the place to
    write in about your favorite golf gadgets, gizmos, and accessories.

    For example: I've recently started noticing more motorized, battery
    operated, hand carts being used by seniors. I thought this was a
    neat idea and there must be alot more clever little gadgets out there.
    What's your favorite? What would you like to see? Where do you
    find out more about these things? What special problems or situations
    do they help you out with? Etc...

    Regards,
    Dave

1363.1clean clubs ! the secret to clean golf !FRAGLE::STUARTI'm in a sandtrap and cant get outWed Sep 11 1991 13:238

    My favorite is the little bottle with the scrub brush on top.
    You put some soapy water in it and can clean you club after
    every shot. Your clubs always look good and you keep the dirt
    out of the grooves !

    It's people who clean their clubs after every shot who cause us to
    play 5 to 5-1/2 hour rounds. Fast play doesn't allow more than a
    swipe of a towel when inserting the club back into your bag. Nothing
    frustrates me more than a 4-1/4 + round.

    There ought to be fewer gadgets and we ought to get back to the old
    rounds.

    Great new topic !!

    I have a few gadgets that I have received as gifts
    but I only use one. It's a divot repair tool with
    some brush on the end opposite the repair end and
    a snap in ball mark (lost that the first time used
    of course). Great for cleaning your grooves while
    walking to your next shot. (can't have these gadgets
    slowing play down you know 1362.2)

    My favorite is a "green reading" device that is
    supposed to tell you which way and how much you
    putt will break. You stand behind your putt and
    line this arrow up with the flag stick. (It's assuming
    that the flag stick is perpendicular to level ground)
    Once lined up with the stick you can read off the break.
    I've never actually tried this thing but it's a neat
    little gadget that's more than likely Rules of Golf
    illegal anyway.

    I have this yardage gadget I got as a stocking stuffer. I know there
    illegal but one day I decided to give it a try. I looked through the
    eye piece and it read 150 yrds to the pin. Pulled out my eight iron
    hit it fat, put the gadget in my bag and far as I know it's still there.

    Have this other gadjet called a one wood. I still can't get it to work
    either.
1363.5REPAIR AND MARKER IN ONEMR4DEC::DIAZOctavio, SME InternationalWed Sep 11 1991 17:0012
    Re:                      <<< Note 1363.2 by HPSTEK::SCOTT >>>

I have the gadget mentioned in .2 and I am a fast player, (three of us
played Lakeside at Juniper this morning in less that 4 hrs, and if you
have played it you'll know you waste plenty of time looking for your
ball, Ay! is tight!!), so I don't think is appropriate to generalize.

Getting back to the subject, my best gadget is a ball mark repair tool
with a magnetize ball marker. It's really handy to have both in the same
place.

    	I used a golf gadget or two at a driving range in Dennis, Ma on Cape
    Cod at "The Longest Yard" .....

    	As far as driving ranges goes, they have most of the gadgets:

    	(1) semi-automatic teeing of driving range ball

    		* very nice, simply touch a button with you club or foot
    		  and presto...a ball is tee'd up. No bending required.
    		  ( I wish places around here stocked this item )

    	(2) personal heaters

    		* a nice feature when it gets cold out

    	(3) covered driving area

    		* very nice when it rains and you can't golf, but have
    		  and additiction to hit a few golf balls

    	(4) grass and sand trap areas

    	And yes I did visit this driving range whilst it was raining
    outside.....by far the most gadgititized driving range I've been to.

1363.7Randy? Slow?USPMLO::DESROCHERSThu Sep 12 1991 16:2815

    re: .2 - you have got to be kidding!! It takes a total of 5 seconds
    and you can even do it while you're walking. Blaming slow play on
    a club cleaner?

    Btw, I'm Randy's partner in the Northboro league. Last night, because
    the course wasn't crowded (Juniper Lakeside back nine), we played our
    own balls AND a scramble in 1 hour and 45 minutes. We also looked for
    balls, the group behind us never got within a hole, and we kept pace
    with a twosome in a cart in front of us.

    I agree with Randy about the club cleaners - they're great!! A "swipe
    of the towel" just lines the grooves with dirt.

1363.8Ready, Aim, Put!MKFSA::STEVENSDave StevensThu Sep 12 1991 22:0010

    I was in a golf store the other day and saw a "sight" aiming accessory
    which can be attached to your putter for better direction control.
    It was about a three inch long thin rod which clamp onto the shaft
    and was positioned perpendicular and slightly above the putter face.
    I don't know how legal it is, but it might be a good tool to get the
    feel for correctly lining up a shot. Kind of like training wheels for
    a putter.

1363.9Back & Time SaverGEMINI::MCCRACKENThu Dec 26 1991 14:4911
    I just bought this gadget for my Dad who will be 76 in three days. He
    sometimes has problems with his back but it doesn't stop him from
    playing. It's a rubber "cup like" item that goes on the end of the
    putter. After putting the ball in the hole, just use this item to pick
    the ball out of the hole instead of having to bend over to get it. I
    also played in a scramble with a guy who had one so when riding in the
    cart to pick up the other three balls which were not being played he
    used it to pick up the balls so he didn't have to get out of the cart.
    Saved some time too!
