1264.0. "Mount Pleasant-Boylston Ma" by WALTA::LENEHAN () Wed Jun 05 1991 10:51

    Hi ,

Last night I recieved my tee-time for my first "attempt" at
qualifying for the Mass Amateur. I'm already nervous! I can
imagine how I'm going to play!

The qualifying course for the Mass Amateur "for my area" is
Mount Pleasant CC in Boylston .

I don't know anything about the course, and would appreciate
any info. We get a practice round, so we won't be playing
the course for the first time, but info will still help.

    	Geesh... I hope I break 100 !

    	thanks,

    	Walta

    Walta,

I know the feeling. I am also making my first attempt this year. I will
be qualifying at the Framingham C.C.. I would ask the same question as
Walta. Does anyone know anything about the Framingham C.C.?

Good luck Walta. With any luck I will see you at some point in time.
My Goal is just to qualify I am not playing very well right now I only
hope that this will get my head into the game. Most of my mistakes
    lately have been mental.

Framingham is a real "Local knowledge" course with a few goofy holes.
PAY ATTENTION during your practice round, and bring a little notebook
    to take some notes.

Mount Pleasant is a few miles from my house, and I've played it a few
times. VERY (!!) strong from the tips, and the greens can be as fast as
anything you have ever seen. Keep the ball below the hole - don't hit
anything into a green that you can easily fly past the middle. The
greens are normally superb, and hold about as well as anyplace in
Mass., except for Vesper. Much tougher course than Framingham. The
"Cream" will rise to the top here...

     Good luck.

    Hi Jack,

Geee.. I thought I might have stumped you!!! I never heard of
Mount Pleasant before the Mass Am... one of these days
    	I'll find a course you haven't played .

    	Thanks for the info,

I should add that there is a bar on rte 140 going towards West
Boylston (From 290) called "The Other Place" that has the BEST steak
sandwich - ANYWHERE. If you need directions to Mt. Pleasant, let me
know - just tell me if you're coming from 495 up 290, etc.

How did either of you score(send it to me if necessary!)?

I have never played Mt. Pleasant, but Bill Ronis' son was second
runnerup in last years qualifier prior to moving to Worcester for the
    tournament.

Hear that the greens are very fast and KEEP THE BALL BELOW THE HOLE is
    a very important point!

Well I shot an 82 at Framingham and needless to say missed the cut
by 4 shots. I'm not satisfied with the outcome but it could have been
worse I guess. It was my first time trying to qualify and I must say
I was a little on the nervous side. Great experience and will try again
next year if I can keep my handicap down. I got to tell you there were
some awfull scores posted ( 97 91 91 94) these are supposed to be 7 and
under handicaps. Also some great scores (67, 73's and 74's). All in all
    it was a great time.

    Hi,

My first shot at it was just as dissapointing... considering
I broke 80 on my practice round, and scored 87 the qualifying
round. I tend to get things reversed once in a while!

Every swing I tried to put handle bars on the ball and steer
    	it to safety ;)...

The cut (I think) was 81, with the low at 74.

Mount Pleasant was excellent and played looong. The excitement
was heart thumping. There were many sad faces ... the scores
    	were higher than expected.

The experience was very rewarding. I hope I can give it a try
again next year, but I've been forwarned by a FEW friends my
single digit cap is a thing of the past once the baby comes! :)
