After reading this conference for some time now, it is apparent that either not too many of us in Scotland play golf, or we just don't contribute to this conference. Maybe it would be a good idea if we were to use this note to perhaps talk about courses we have played in Scotland, prices of playing courses in Scotland, any equipment shops where DEC employees get discounts etc. etc. I hope this note will take off, cause I for one am a bit fed up reading about USA golf all the time. (No disrespect to my friends over in the US)

Hopefully in the next couple years I can escape for a Scotish golf vacation. Larry

In Ayr we recently held an inhouse golf show comprising of equipment made by a company called Baron Golf. The show comprised of clubs, bags, brollies, head covers etc. The prices were very competitive and although the clubs on show were not in the class of top brand names like Ping, Wilson and Ram they were none the less value for money. Various members of our Golf Club bought sets of clubs, as well as single clubs such as drivers (metal & wooden) and putters. Baron Golf is situated at the South Newmoor Industrial Estate, Irvine. Tel: 0294 215127. Various discounts are available. Name Badge must be shown. ...Derek

I recently went on a short golfing holiday to Scotland. The highlights were playing the Old Course at St Andrews, and also playing two courses used in Open Qualifying, Ladybank and Tayport Scotscraig. Playing the Old Course came as quite a shock to me. The greens are really unbelievably large and contoured. The Ladybank and Scotscraig courses, each around 10 miles from St Andrews, are excellent and very enjoyable to play. This part of Scotland is probably the best for top quality courses, with Gleneagles, Carnoustie , and Muirfield close enough by. martin |
