1180.0. "Mail Order Advice" by CGHUB::DOWNING () Tue Mar 12 1991 14:40

    Has anyone done any purchasing of equipment through mail order houses?
    I would be interested if there recommended ones vs. ones to stay away
    from? 20-30% discounts can be very tempting

I bought a set of woods through Edwin Watts and was pleased. However I had a
friend that had the same clubs which I had hit so I knew what to expect.
Service, delivery, & price were good.

     I used to live in Florida, where they have Nevada Bobs, Edwin Watts
    and Las Vegas Discount stores. All of these are big mail order houses
    as well. I was surprised to find out that the prices in these places
    couldn't compete with their mail orders you find in Golf Digest.

    Apparently there is a substantial discount when you don't have to
    pay building rent etc. As long as you check out the equipment first,
    as .1 mentioned, I would feel perfectly comfortable buying from a
    mail order house. They deal in high volume, low overhead. The
    equipment is the same you'd find in any golf shop.
