| 1140.2 | Is the Masters a PGA event? | CHRLIE::HUSTON | Tue Jan 29 1991 12:20 | 9 | |
Is there any fallout towards Augusta for minority restrictions?
I don't know if Augusta has minorities or not, but I remember a few
years back they only had black caddies, and I seem to recall
Lee Trevino making some noise about this before.

| 1140.3 | Never at Augusta! 'Til now | AIMHI::CORRIGAN | Tue Jan 29 1991 17:53 | 8 | |
They slyly slid a "full memeber" in right after the Shoal Creek
incident. He is the CEO/past-CEO of some television outfit. He
said something like "I don't care if I am a token member or not.
I'm a member of the Augusta National and not too many people can
say that" ( a very loose translation ).
You know the cronies at AN would never stand for the incident that
took place at their neighboring state's club!

| 1140.4 | Practice Round Tickets | ODIXIE::HARRISKE | Triathlete | Fri Feb 15 1991 13:41 | 11 |
What is the story on practice round tickets (Tue)?? I know
because of the crowds they were talking about another way
of obtaining tickets for the practice rounds.
Any info??

Ken

| 1140.5 | Even harder to get, still.... | AIMHI::CORRIGAN | Mon Feb 18 1991 09:55 | 6 | |
The last I heard was that they might limit practice round tix to
Series badge holders. That's too bad but have you ever seen the
crowds on the Par 3 course on Wednesdays???

| 1140.6 | Get There Early (7am) | WMOIS::REEVE_C | Mon Feb 18 1991 14:38 | 30 | |
I haven't heard of any rule changes this year, but in the past the
Mon., Tues., and Weds. practice rounds were open to the public (I don't
recall the $$) with unlimited ticket sales. On Weds. they have the
Par-3 Tournament and limit ticket sales to (I think) 10,000. You can
get a ticket to the Weds practice round without the Par-3 (which costs
extra). It may have changed, but most of the best players DO NOT play
in the par-3. They would rather practice for the real tournament, which
is why no one has ever won both in the same year.
If you get a chance to go to Augusta in April, you should definitely go
to a practice round. They are, for me, more fun than the early rounds
of the tournament and much easier to get tickets. Last time I went I
followed Nicklaus, Norman, Watson and Ballesteros who were all playing
together. The most interesting anecdote was watching Seve crush a
perfect drive on 13, and then hit 5 consecutive balls into Rae's Creek.
I don't speak Spanish, but any golfer could understand what he was
saying.
If you are after autographs (I'm not), I would suggest you go on Mon or
Tue. The players tend to get less cooperative as the tournament gets
closer and absolutely will not sign any after Weds. There are fewer
pros around on Mon, but almost everyone is there by Tues.
One suggestion, if you go be sure to go early and spend some time just
walking around the course. It is incredibly beautiful, even the woods
are manicured. Augusta National in April is a religious experience and
every golfer should be required to make a pilgrimage there once in their
life.
