Given the NE winters, I strongly suggest, if you have the right
set up in your house, is a net set up in your basement.
You can order from "Goldsmith"'s or another golf house that
I can get for you.
My son, has done this for two winter's, of course he's the type
(17) that can put on MC Hammer music and swing for one straight hour.
I can't, I don't have the pateince BUT, he's really improved his game.
The proper net will give you the right target and trajectory for
each shot and can more or less let you know how you are doing.
It's better with two people, not as boring. IT"S also suprisingly
A REAL WORKOUT !! I swing for 20 minutes in an unheated basement
and I need a towel and two gallons of beer !
Other than this, in this notes file, you will find places to go
to swing inside during the winter. But I prefer my "downstairs
links"!!
good luck, another addict,

1088.2 | tragectory? what tragectory? | DINSCO::BURKE | EIS Net Mgt Solutions | Tue Oct 02 1990 18:25 | 11 |
| Dave,
Many local pros set up shop for indoor golf instruction (hit from
mats into a net) from 1 January through 1 April. Usually, they are quite
reasonable. I bought a package of 6 1/2 hour lessons for $75. You could
also hit a bucket of balls for $3, or pay something like $60 for the three
months to hit balls anytime. It was in Woburn, MA, and was sponsored by
the head pro at Wincester CC. I'm sure there are similar scenarios in
southern N.H. as well.

| I was thinking about the net in the basement idea....do you know
how high the ceiling needs to be to accomodate this (I'm 5'6").

1088.5 | Ceiling Divots ! | RAYBOK::COOPER | MAD HACKER | Wed Oct 03 1990 12:08 | 7 |
| One of my friends uses his family room with an 8 foot ceiling
and takes the occasional divot out of the ceiling on his
follow through. (His wife loves that !!) Of course, he is 6'5" !
I'm 5'9" and I come close to the ceiling when I swing inside so
you probably want an 8 foot ceiling minimum.

1088.6 | What winter ?? | USEM::VOUTSELAS | | Wed Oct 03 1990 17:21 | 28 |

Yes you need at least 8 feet. I'm less than 5'9", the son
is 5'11", BUT you can still get away with a 4 or 5 iron.
Actually I can even go to 5 wood and two iron and so can my son.
I've re-enforced the portion where the swing ends up cause
you will hit the ceilings/beams on occasion.
You also will need 2 large 'painters canvass' to create a huge
hood around the net to keep balls from flying all over the
place! Take it from me, you'll never believe the power of a golf
shot if it happens to hit OTHER than the practice net!!
It should look like a tent with one opening.
At first, you will have, "ceiling swing", that is afraid to fully
swing for fear of wrecking your basement. So go with 6 and 5 irons
first. Get a good matt, which comes with practise net.
Now add TV, beer or vodka collins, nuts and snacks and you can
spend the whole winter down there !!!

1088.9 | Winter Clinic in Methuen | OAXCEL::CALLERY | | Mon Oct 15 1990 18:19 | 12 |
| Hi
At the Whirlaway in Methuen,Mass. on route 110 there is an indoor
and outdoor driving range. In the winter you can also use the outdoor
range with heaters and hit live golf balls.
Indoors there are nets and putting green. There also offer some
type of clinics throughout the winter but I don't know offhand the
times or prices.
Hope this helps!

1088.10 | I played on Sunday. | COMET::DVORAK | | Mon Nov 12 1990 12:17 | 12 |
| This isn't about clinics but was the only winter topic that I could
find.
We had a gorgeous weekend in Colorado. Clear skies, temps in the 60s
and very little wind. A friend and I made it out on Sunday and were off
as the first group of the day. Had a cart and played 18 in 2 1/2 hours.
It was really nice not to have to wait. Had my usual up and down round.
But managed a 93, netting 71. Plus took $3 from my buddy. First time
all year that I won front back and total from him.
It looks like the weather will be cooperative again, at least the long
range forecast says, so back out next weekend.

1088.11 | Good Weather Here | COMET::DVORAK | | Mon Feb 04 1991 10:01 | 9 |
| We had been getting "cabin fever" but were able to get relief this past
weekend. Very little snow left on most of the courses in Colorado
Springs.
Got in 18 on Saturday and we were amazed that we played in 4 hours.
It was a public course and it usually takes 4 1/2 - 5 at this course.
No scores posted but there is definitely range time in my future.

1088.12 | Crazy UK Weather | CHEFS::HEELAN | Andaluz por deseo | Mon Feb 04 1991 10:22 | 13 |
| Lucky you !
This crazy UK weather meant that my club was snowed out on
Saturday/Sunday, but I was able to play in good conditions on another
(not as challenging) course about 3 miles away and 50 feet less altitude.
Roll on Spring and light evenings.
