Stow is nice...but there have been complaints lately about the
conditions, due to aerating (sp) the greens. Westminster has a great back
nine, hum-drum front nine.
Gardner is nice, great greens. Wachusette is excellent. Marlboro CC
would be my personal favorite, they allow the public to play there
certain hours during the week, but not on weekends.

1074.4 | How about Crumpin Fox | LEVERS::DAVIS | | Tue Sep 11 1990 13:38 | 13 |
| Actually if you don't mind a little drive there is a splendid course in
Bernardston Ma. called Crumpin Fox. It was the site of the recent Mass
Senior Open this past week. I have played it a few times and its a lot
of fun. Mind you its not the easiest course around with a slope of 136
but it is in good shape and they have an interesting deal. For $45 they
offer you a round of golf, cart, and a $15 credit at a restaraunt called
Phases. You can call in your reservation through the lounge at the course
and take a shower in their clubhouse before you go. When I have played
there it hasn't really been crowded and the pace is about 4 hours for 18.
Directions are easy and they give them to you when you call in your tee
time.

1074.5 | Some Minor Inaccuracies.. | ASABET::VARLEY | | Wed Sep 12 1990 10:06 | 11 |
| The slope at Crumpin-Fox is 137 from the middle and 141 from the back,
making it the highest slope in the state. There are 2 golf and dinner
packages - one on weekdays at $40 and cone on Sunday at $45. The course
has been real busy for the last several months, so call for a starting
time (2 days in advance is the rule). Otherwise, you're correct. BTW, I
was out there yesterday pm for the finals of the MGA senior amateur. 9
over won it, and 17 over tied for second. If you're looking for a low
number, this ain't the place, but if you want a challenge, this IS the
place.

1074.6 | Is Wachusett really that bad? | WRKSYS::FITZPATRICK | Juuuust a bit outside. | Wed Sep 12 1990 10:33 | 14 |
| Well, I had decided to play Wachusett since I had heard interesting
things about it before. However, I just read the note (#800) about it
in here, and I'm wondering if this is really the best place to spend an
enjoyable day playing golf. It sounds like the people there are really
rude and I'd rather not deal with them. Has anybody had a good
experience playing there? Is it just kind of "hit or miss" as to
whether you'll be treated politely?
Also, if someone could post a description of the holes, an interesting
layout might overcome a bit of less-than-perfect treatment. By the
way, this year I've been shooting mid-high 90's.
Thanks,
-Tom

1074.7 | Scorecard Info | PINGS::OGREN | | Wed Sep 12 1990 10:51 | 51 |
| Here's the info from the Crumpin-Fox scorecard. As you can see even
the Blues is a pretty good test!
JV's hole descriptions/strategy are right on. I wish I could've
remembered them! I hit great drives through doglegs on #1 and #7.
In other places I hit 1 irons where a driver/3-wood gives more
fairway. As with any course, there is a lot of local knowledge
required to hit the right sticks and the right shots. I think
playing from the blues the first time, and saving the blacks is
a pretty good thing to do ... and bring along the hole descriptions
(you can't beat their price ;-)!.
The scorecard with yardages and slopes follows.

| I'm a Stow Acres addict, but since their "punching" the greens to
be completely done over(going down 7 inches with "airration"
, re-surfacing, re seeding- and all new bent grass, to
be "THE best in NE" according to the owner,
GO TO => Poquoy Brook, Lakeville Mass, 495 S to exit 5,
go right and I think it's on #79??
Nice little course not too tough, but reminds you of
Stow North. People are nice, and the owner of Wachusett makes
the Pages look like Bert and Ernie!!
