1062.1 | Can't remember the backroads | SUBWAY::GRIFFIN | | Tue Aug 28 1990 12:38 | 9 |
| Deb,
I believe the name of the course is Sagamore and it's actually in
North Hampton. I've only played there once and from what I remember it
was a bit difficult to find the place (turnoffs not clearly marked).
Hopefully someone can give you the directions.

1062.2 | no chemicals! | RANGER::WIMMER | | Tue Aug 28 1990 12:45 | 8 |
| I have directions in the NE Golf Guide....if no one responds first,
I can find it for you. I live close to Hampton, haven't played
Sagamore yet, but my neighbor belongs there ($300 a year). It's
one of the clubs I'm considering joining if I like the course. It's
supposedly the only course in the US maintained without chemicals,
which makes it pretty appealing to me. The only gripe I've heard
about it is no carts....

Re: last
The fact that it doesn't allow carts is a plus in my book, not a gripe.

I live about a mile from the course. It is a nice course, but has a few
problems.
directions from the toll booth as you proceed north on I 95.
Following I 95 out of Mass.
stay to the right, take NH route 51
The exit is about 250 yards before the toll booth on I 95.
The exit ramp will cross back over I 95. There is a local
exit toll booth after crossing back over I 95. The toll is
50 cents.
Exiting the toll stay to the right, this will put you on NH 51
heading towards Exeter/ Manchester.
Follow NH 51 to the first exit. The exit is to the right. At the
end of the exit ramp stay to the right. This will put you on
NH 101D/ NH 111. I know it is confusing here, but they have
recently put up the NH 111 signs and now the road is know by
both numbers. The locals call it Exeter road.
Follow Exeter road for 2 to 3 miles, you will come to a stop sign.
Before coming to the stop sign you will cross back over I 95.
At the stop sign you will be at the intersection of NH 111/NH 101D
and NH 151. Or as the locals call it: The intersection of Exeter and
Post roads. Turn left onto Post road. You will go up a small hill
and there will be a church on your right. Follow Post road for about
1 to 2 miles. The sign for Sagamore is on the right just before
crossing back over I 95. At the sign turn right onto North road.
The packing lot is on the right about 400 yards up North road.
The courses phone number is: 603 964 5341. Call before you go.
They take tee times.

Call before you drive up.
They have tee times.
Afternoons and weekdays it is fairly easy
to get off. But early on weekends is more difficult.
There are no memberships.
It costs $20 for 18.

1062.8 | They used to have riding carts | JUPITR::PERCUOCO | | Thu Aug 30 1990 12:25 | 7 |
| I haven't played the course in a few years but the last time I did,
They did have riding carts. I believe the green fees are $25.00.
It's a challenging course with a few surprizes, if you haven't played
it yet, especially on holes 1,8.... You can't see the green from
your tee shot.

1062.9 | he paid $300 for something... | RANGER::WIMMER | | Fri Aug 31 1990 12:11 | 18 |
| re memberships:
I haven't been there myself, but my next door neighbor just told me
he pays $300 a year to play at Sagamore. Maybe they don't refer to
it as a "membership", but there is definitely some kind of deal there.
His exact words were...."I belong to Sagamore , it's only $300 a year".
I don't think you can see Sagamore from 95 though (I may be wrong).
You might have seen Evergreen in Newburyport. It's a fairly new
9-hole course....this is the second full year. I play there a lot
as it is 2 blocks from my house and costs $8 for 9 during the week.
It's fairly flat, but interesting due to water hazards. There is
one par 5 with an elevated green cut into the side of the hill that
can be pretty deadly if you overshoot the green or hit on either side
of it. It suffers from "new course problems", but is coming along
pretty nicely.

Sagamore is definatly "seeable" from 95. Holes 2,3,4 run right up
against 95 North.

| I would like to thank you for all the INFO, I found the course. You
must call for tee times, the price is $20.00 for 18 and no carts
We had tee times at 12:35 on Monday. We were there early and the starter
let use out about 11:45. The course is well keep, althrough there were a
couple of greens that thay are having problems with. I really injoyed the
way the course is layed out. Some fairways are flat an open and others are
nestled in hilley woods.
The wildlife is also very nice,We must have seen at leasted 100 wood-chuck.
Thanks Debbie
