Without a doubt, Tommy Armour II.
I'm suprised the freaking guy can even hit a golf ball. He should stick
to cutting down marsh weeds or something....

1044.7 | IMPACT...WHERE IT COUNTS... | MAMIE::GORDON | | Thu Aug 02 1990 10:52 | 16 |
| swings are like faces...they are all different...BUT with a golf swing
it's what they look like AT IMPACT that counts.
Only reason I mention this is because of .5 selecting TREVINO.
Some of the players mentioned have ugly swings, some are just bad to
look at but I've heard Nicklaus and others say many times in interviews
that TREVINO is the best pure ball striker since Hogan. His swing isn't
classic or free flowing but AT IMPACT he's the best since Hogan.
I think every player selected so far may not have good swings to the
person selecting them (in my case Pavin) but in the where it counts
department I guess they still deserve alot of credit, THEY CAN PLAY
THE GAME VERY WELL WITH WHAT THEY HAVE....

| > I'll cast my vote for Miller Barber, who's got more loops

I agree with most of the players mentioned already. At this year's
Digital Seniors I watched Miller Barber at the range. It hurt when
I tried to put my right arm in the position that he gets it at the top
of the swing, let alone imagine how I could get it back for impact.
The interesting thing about all the guys mentioned is that though they
may do all sorts of funny stuff with the club on the way back if you
look at a stop action sequence they are back to the classic position
at impact!

1044.9 | Mr. X does exist... | MAMIE::GORDON | | Thu Aug 02 1990 11:23 | 9 |
| re: .8
we have a player at my club who swings exactly like Barber...
we call this guy Mr. X (Barbers alias) yet he's always between
8-12 on his handicap and is considered one of our better players.
Funny thing is this guy looks like Stadler (the walrus) and swings
like Barber...but when he's off on a given day he has no
idea where the ball may end up...

1044.10 | Arnold Palmer? | 5WOOD::FITZPATRICK | Today my jurisdiction ends here. | Thu Aug 02 1990 11:23 | 10 |
| Am I the only one who thinks that Arnie's swing looks pretty ugly? Am
I bordering on blasphemy here? It's just that his swing always looks
to me like he's mostly using just his arms and always trying to kill
the ball. Definitely not "smooth and easy".
Just my opinion,
-Tom
PS. If I could play that well, I wouldn't really care what anybody
else thought of my swing.

1044.11 | Another for Arnie | DECSVC::CARBONE | | Thu Aug 02 1990 12:23 | 9 |
|
Well, I'll cast another vote for Arnie, I think he has the ugliest
swing I've ever seen. I keep waiting for him to fall down or screw
himself into the ground everytime he swings. The results speak
for themselves but to watch...he is UGLY!!!!!

1044.16 | W'ere proud of our ugly duckling - Darcy | GVA01::MACFERRAN | | Fri Aug 03 1990 09:16 | 10 |
| Eamonn Darcy sure does have a flying right elbow and looks ugly
(just like my swing).
But he is effective - always in the top 10-15 in Europe and who
can forget his great victory over Ben Crensahw in the second last
Ryder Cup.
His flying right elbow never stopped him from sinking that putt
to bring another Ryder Cup victory to the real golfers of this world !!!

Quite agree with .16. I'm just glad he doesn't put with the same
ugly "flying elbow" otherwise we could have lost the Ryder cup.
Who says that the swing has to look good anyway. I wish I could
be as good as those who have "ugly" swings. Surely the objective
of the game is to go round in as few shots as possible. Now if your
asking who the best dressed golfer is my vote goes to Payne Stewart
"love those plus fours".

played his best golf in the majors!

that hesitation at the top.
A close second has to be Corey Pavin. I think he learned golf at the
batting cage. If his swing gets any flatter he'll need a tee ball tee.

have an awful one.

the Four Hills Country Club, Chi Chi's swing is the ugliest I've
ever seen, but my God, does he hit the ball, but Jim Dent is just
the opposite, beautiful swing, I've never seen anyone longer than
him. Chi Chi, ugly swing and all, is laughing on his way to the
bank with $52,500.00 for three days work.

| Have to agree with the Arnold Palmer "swing" in that he doesn't
really swing in the true sense of what we would consider the
'pro swing" , all his power is from arms rather than leg and hip drive,
terrible finish, which means his right arm is not driving after
impact, can't see any hand action, lousy balance, no "late hit"
and I wish I had it!!
