1027.0. "AMHERST C.C." by 20832::STRONG () Tue Jul 24 1990 07:46

                         AMHERST C.C.

    Has anyone out there played Amherst C.C. recently? I'am trying

    to organize a "day of golf" for about 16 people in the office

    and would like some feedback regarding the condition of the

    course.

                                      thanks,

                                            Rick

1027.1It's in Great ShapeNRADM::MCKINNONgrab a bag of bats, killerTue Jul 24 1990 08:427
    I play it quite often and think it's in great shape, with the
    exception of a few tees and a couple of greens (the 12th comes to
    mind). The fairways are in real good shape and the greens are quick,
    not lightning fast, and roll true. I think your group will really
    enjoy it.

1027.2The greens have come around nicely..LEDS::OBRIENRTue Jul 24 1990 10:4413
	I played Amherst last weekend, and agree with .1, the course is in
	nice shape. In fact, the fairways are in as good a shape as any
	course in the area,  IMO.

	I played earlier in the year at Amherst and the greens were a
	disaster; some had as much 50% winterkill. But they have come along
	as the summer has progressed, and there are very few thin spots on
	the greens, now.

	I would recommend it.

    I played the front 9 at Amherst last Saturday, the course is in ok
    shape, not great but by no means bad ( I did not see it early in the
    year). The one thing I did notice though is that the greens are
    hard as a rock, nothing would sit from any distance out, so you have
    to play one club less and run it up, of course all this rain could
    change that.

1027.4Good shape.DANZO::CARRTue Jul 31 1990 17:3110

    I played Amherst yesterday morning before work. IMO the course is in
    the best shape it's been in in a while. They are hosting the NH
    women's amateur championships there this week. They've let the rough
    grow much longer than usual, the fairways are in pretty good shape and
    are a bit narrower than usual. The greens are also in good condition,
    with the exception of the 12th. The tees are all back about as far as
    they'll go. Not bad at all.

    Which tees do the women use in a tournament of this type?

    The women hit from the red tees but the reds are placed where the whites
    are normally. The whites are placed where the blues normally are and
    the blues are way back.
