1007.0. "Lake Sebago, Me. info needed" by SOFBA2::SULLIVAN () Mon Jul 09 1990 16:44

I am going to be staying on Lake Sabago in Me. the week of July
23rd. I was wondering if anyone knows any local courses I could
jump on as a single and wouldn't have a problem pairing up with
    someone else.

     Prices, Tee-times , carts etc...

Any info would be a big help.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just returned from a great week of vacation at Point Sebago. I
did gat a chance to play a great course in Portland called Sable
Oaks. It's a new course (one year old) that is coming in beautifully.
It's tight and demanding calling for a few iron drives. The cost was
$25 for 18 holes cart included. The people in the clubhouse and the
maintenance crew on the course were all great.
The course is about 2 miles off of exit 7 of the Maine Turnpike.
I strongly recommend playing this track.

I was in the notes today looking for a previous note that talked
about a new course in so. portland which I believe is Sable Oaks.
If I find it I'll put the info in this file.

Sable Lakes is 2 miles from exit 7, but in which direction?

I go to Portland regularly so please post more complete directions.

    Thanks.

     WOW !!!

Thanks !! Hmmm. The course on Frye Island... What I forgot to mention
was I am staying right on the lake and will be taking my High Powered
bass boat. Does the frye course have a dock?

I played Poland Springs 2 years ago and thought it was a dust pile.
There was a course around the corner call Fairlawn? I belive that
    was very nice.

     Thanks for all your help!

By the way-- Anybody gonna be up there? If you are let me know and
    we could pair up.

1007.15Try Val HallaGTIGUY::CLOSEMon Jul 16 1990 17:2116
Riverside in Portland has 27 holes. The 18 hole side has some
challenging holes. I think they reveresed the nines recently, so
I hesitate to use numbers anymore. The holes along the Royal River
are the best, but there are some fairly featureless, clover-infested
holes that don't have much character.

The 9-hole layout is actually more fun, I think. And it's not as
heavily played. For Portland residents, Riverside is an incredible
deal. It's something like $200/year for the 18-hole course, with
no greens fees! It's $20 otherwise. As you can imagine, it's incredibly
busy. Don't try to play there on a weekend.

I prefer Val Halla in Cumberland on Greely Rd. This is about 12-15
miles from Sebago Lake. It's 18, some very nice holes, and a real
friendly atmosphere. I play it every time I go to Portland, and
    it's well worth it.
1007.16Ditto on the Val Halla thing there...DNEAST::FREEMAN_KEVIThe Squeeky Wheel = NeglectTue Jul 17 1990 13:245
Completely slipped my mind about Val Halla... Nike... Just Do IT!
Re .09 look at note 977.0 I believe that price you quoted with cart
included is for their early morning and twilight specials.

12-15 miles from Sebago to Val Halla ???

Hmmm..My map shows it about 30 as the crow flies....

    Anyway, Val Halla is nice.

However, It rained Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday !!!

Only got to play Naples, C.C. Very tight course with small
greens. Maybe next year the weather will be more polite.
