#1 - Sinking a medium putt that you absolutely had to make
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is when I get the most vocal out on a course.
#2 - Hitting a drive down the middle of the fairway
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anytime I'm not in trouble, I get excited.
#3 - Hitting a medium iron flush
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don't know why, it just makes me feel good.
Least - Hitting a fairway wood on the screws
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't take the chance and hit this shot too much. More
interested in position the shot gives me, than how it feels.

|
The shots that I get the most thrill out of are...
1. Hitting any length shot that tucks-up tight...!
2. Making a medium length putt that has to be made...!
3. hitting any length shot that I hit sweet...!
4. being able to score on a hole even after beeting my tee shot into
the ground (unfortuneately I have had to do this a lot the last
couple of times out, particularly yesterday - I went to the range
today to try to straighten this out and sure enough I hit every
damn shot pure... :-{...)

1001.4 | Get it Close | NRADM::MCKINNON | grab a bag of bats, killer | Thu Jul 05 1990 14:18 | 15 |
| My favorite shots are approach shots of ANY type that I can get close
(which I don't do too often). That's the name of the game right there.
Hit the green in regulation and get it as close as you can. (if I ever
pull a Gamez, I may quit my day job).
Second is the long putt (like the two I made yesterday).
Third is a tie between the long drive (in the fairway) and the fairway
wood hit on the screws.
Least favorite is the chip over a bunker with very little green to work
with (which is downhill beyond the pin as well). We're looking at triple
here.

From a hacker's view:
1: Hitting my 5 wood. (It's my confidence builder)
2: Hitting a little pop up sandwedge from 40 yds real close
3: Chipping with my 8 iron
Shot most disliked:
Chipping off of extremely hard ground

1001.6 | My favs | CRBOSS::HURLEY | | Thu Jul 05 1990 14:45 | 13 |
| My absolute favorite is nailing a fairway wood on the screws to
reach a 500+ yd par 5 in two. It takes two long straight shots
to do it, you're putting for an eagle, and it's great.
Next is a great blast out of the sand trap that skips up to the hole
and then bites. It's one of the few times I can put enough spin
on the ball for it to check up.
Next is the 30+ foot putt for par or less.
Least Favorite: Making the putt to get up and down in two. It's
nice but ... ho hum a chip and a putt. It happens a lot.
|
1001.7 | Here's my thoughts..... | MSHRMS::GOGUEN | | Thu Jul 05 1990 14:56 | 27 |
| The shots I tend to get excited about on the course are:
1. The times I get most excited on the course are when I am able to
successfully visualize and then execute a particular shot. Whether
it be a 40 foot putt, a drive with a draw or a fade, a high loft
shot over a bunker to a pin with not much green to be used, a low
shot out of the trees and onto the green,....whatever the shot be, I
always get a thrill out of seeing the shot in my mind and then being
able to perform the shot like I visualized it.
2. The shot I am usually most vocal about on the course is sinking the
long putt. I also am equally as vocal about a chip-in 8^) !
3. Whenever I hit any club crisply (which usually results in accuracy
too) I always give myself a great feeling of satisfaction. Usually
accompanied by the thought of "if I could only hit them all like
that....".
4. The shot that is my least favorite would definitely have to be when
I perfectly execute a shank. Why? Cause the result of most of my
shanked shots usually is a ball out-of-bounds or several yards into
the woods. And in most cases means an additional two strokes to my
score.

The sand shot.!! I knew there was a basic shot I was missing. Add two
more to the list in .0 then.
- Splashing a sand shot from a greenside bunker close to the pin
- Successfully executing a fairway bunker shot
Interesting comments so far. Surprised that noone has selected the
long, humungous drive as their favorite. That is the type of shot,
my golfing partners are always talking about. C'mon, you know who you
are!!

1001.9 | 7 iron from 140yds and stick-it within 10ft__!!!! | BUSY::SWANEY | | Thu Jul 05 1990 16:39 | 18 |
|
1. Hit any iron and sticking in close for a 1 putt chance
2. Sinking those 5-15 footers that test your nerves...
3. Playing a perfect position shot wether it's laying up on a
par 5. Or land in the middle of the green instead of going
at the pin.. or when I pull out the 1-iron to keep it in a
narrow fairway...(and it actually stays in the fairway)
I hate bunker shots I either pick'um clean or hit nothing but
snad and they just lay there.... I know I need just to go practive
them, but How can I afford to practice sand shots when I need to
improve my woods...(&*^&*

Mine are....
1. Sinking the Looong put to save par or make a Birdie, Those
are the ones I really yell about.
2. I love hitting a crushing drive dead down the middle when I
need it the most. Like after scraping it around for 17 holes
and still having a chance to win on 18, crank that drive
and put it in cruise control from there.
3. Swinging a smooth long iron into a green, gotta love the
feeling of sticking a 3 iron.
Least favorite is hitting a fairway bunker shot. If you hit it
good, it would be fine, but miss a little, look out!

1001.11 | My favorite hits | RAYBOK::COOPER | MAD HACKER | Thu Jul 05 1990 17:37 | 13 |
| My all time favorite is anything with the driver !! Especially
if I nail it ! I don't even mind watching those monsterous slices
ride the wind into the next county at my home course. Seems like
they stay up for 30-40 seconds some times !!!!!
Second on the list is any putt that goes in the hole !!!!!
Third is hitting it close with my wedge.
Fourth, any crisp hit.

I like them all! In looking back at my rounds this year though, the
shots I remember most vividly are the 200+ yd, 2-3 iron shots that
check up, close to the flag.
Now that I think about it, it's easy to understand why I remember
BOTH of those shots 8)

1001.13 | Goodies and Baddies | CHEFS::NEWPORTP | | Fri Jul 06 1990 05:08 | 22 |
| My best and worst are:-
1. Hitting the long iron (3) to green when I have either got to
draw it or fade it...and it happens. I think..."Wow, that's
what's supposed to happen!"
2. Playing a long pitch and run with a 6 or a 7 and holding it
to a single putt distance. (probably not so easy on the US
courses with all that water).
3. Smacking my 1 iron off the tee with a fizz....when rumour has
it that this club is just to make up the numbers!.
The one I hate is a short pitch from a bare lie, knowing that
unless this is perfect, I could take someone's head off two fairways
away.

1001.14 | My favorites/least favorites | SA1794::WELLSPEAK | Waiting for you to come along | Fri Jul 06 1990 08:52 | 32 |
| 1. Hitting a long iron flush and putting it on the green. Not close,
but just on the green. By long iron, I mean a 2, 3 or 4 iron.
This is usually required due to a not so good tee shot, or perhaps a
great tee shot on a par 5. In either case, it really lifts you up
and brings new life to my round.
2. Dropping a chip or pitch into the hole. No doubt about it, this
shot, more than any other one, really gets to your opponent. There
he is with a 8 to 12 footer for birdie, and your 20 feet off the
green. Then you hit the damn thing right into the cup for birdie,
and your opponent sits there going "Ga, ga, goo, goo"!!! And his
8 to 12 footer just became a 16 to 24 footer!!!
3. I'll bite. I do get pumped when I really nail one from the tee,
long and in play. Not necesarily in the fairway, but in a position
where I have a good 2nd shot. I'd rather hit from 120 yards away
in the rough, then from 160 yards away in the fairway. At least
95% of the time. There's always that hole though, where you have
to be hitting from the short grass.
My least favorite shot to hit, is probably the tap in putt. Everyone
expects you to make them, but most of us miss one once in awhile, and
it really puts a damper on your round. Plus it's a boring shot.
The most difficult shot, at least for me anyways, is anything I have
to draw. I'm a left to right player. That is, when I'm playing well,
I fade everything. When I'm not playing well, it's "Right turn
Clyde"!!! So when I get on a hole that has trouble on the left side,
and the tee box is way left, I just cringe walking up to that tee.

| My three favorite shots are:
Jack Daniel's
Tequila
Jack Daniel's (I really like Jack)
But seriously, my three favorite shots are:
1) Hitting a straight tee shot with any club, but particulary
a long iron (since I'm only using irons these days).
2) An high lofty chip, with backspin, to the green that lands
within inches of the cup. Suddenly I'm putting spin on about
50% of my short iron shots. Wednesday, I hit a 6 iron 150 yards
to within 10 feet of the pin and the ball spun back 5 feet.
3) Making a putt for anything less than a bogey. Especially long
putts.

1001.16 | Okay, okay... I admit it Rick. | DINSCO::BURKE | Network Management | Fri Jul 06 1990 11:21 | 23 |
| I guess I get more enjoyment off of the putting surface, hitting
good shots. Perhaps because my short game is adequate and my ball striking
needs significant improvement. Anyway, my list is as follows:
1. Long, humugous drive anywhere [revision... in the fairway].
2. Hitting a long iron flush [at the flag].
3. Hitting a drive down the middle of the fairway.
4. Hitting a medium iron flush [at the flag].
5. Hitting a fairway wood on the screws [creating an eagle putt].
6. Hitting a crisp short iron to the green with a lot of spin.
7. Striking a perfect half-wedge [to within a few feet].
1. Sinking a medium putt that you absolutely had to make
2. Sinking a short putt for a successful up and down [lots of chances]
3. Hitting a chip shot real close [lots of chances]
4. Sinking a long (> 30 feet) putt

1001.17 | The situation is the key | SIOUXI::BREEN | | Fri Jul 06 1990 15:06 | 16 |
| I think one factor that enters in is the situation in which you hit the
shot. For example, the 220 yd 3 iron to the green is not so great when
it follows a skied tee shot.
However,
#1 The 3 or 5 wood "on the screws" setting up an eagle putt
#2 A par 3 short iron, especially the one Rick refers to as the "cut"
shot; it stops dead without being particularly high
#3 The long drive particularly when it clears an obstacle - like the
10th at Devens following a conversation like
Player - Wind is against us, we will have to layup short of ditch today
Me - Nope, cleared it yesterday and I'm going to clear it today
AND DOING IT (and under your breath "you lucky SOB")

1001.18 | | DPDMAI::VENEZIO | MY other car is a GOLFCART | Mon Jul 09 1990 16:53 | 11 |
| My three favorites:
The mid iron into a difficult pin placement and sticking it tight.
The fairway wood or long iron into a par five.
The greenside sand shot to a gimme with plenty of "geewhiz" (backspin)
My least favorite is the putt from off the fringe. You didn't hit it
close enough to stay on the green and your not far enough to play the
pitch or chip.

Long iron shot (2/3) hit solid
Bump and run wedge from 50 yds or so into 'makable' range
A solid tee shot that lands in a spot where I can hit it again
least fav:
Chunkin' it from anywhere. (Just hate the feeling of not making
contact)

| Hitting any iron close AFTER hitting a good drive. There's nothing
worse than the feeling of hitting a poor shot after a great drive.
Hitting a great drive (they come so seldom :^(
Long iron to the green on a par 5.
Most vocal, sinking a medium putt that had to be made for the win.

My best feeling is this:
I've just made double bogey.
The next 3 shots are lousy and looking at 25 footer for par but
back in the "golf mind " your saying to yourself, another 3 putt
and another DB.
BUT YOU MAKE IT FOR PAR
AND YOUR NEXT TEE SHOT IS DOWN THE MIDDLE
This takes me mentally right back in the game, where as two DBs in
a row ,I'm really down and out and would probably hit real bad on
the the next tee.
Saving par after a bad DB, and then "cleaning" a drive on the next
tee is the best feeling for me.

My favs...
Hitting a long iron flush to the green is one on the best feelings in
the world. (close to something else that needs no explanation)
Anything with a wedge inside of 40yds or so that ends up close.
Those long puts that give or save you anything.
My worst...
Wedges off of hardpan...just can't get them high enough!

2. A long fairway wood or longiron that winds up sitting pretty on the

3. A 40 or so yard chip that winds up within 10 or so feet of the hole
4. Holing a very long putt.
