The Digital Maynard Golf League is holding its summer outing at
Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg, Mass. For those who have played
there, can you give us some details on what to expect.
Thanks,
Ken

| 961.1 | Oak Hill is A-O.K.! | ASABET::VARLEY | Tue Jun 05 1990 14:55 | 13 | |
Oak Hill is a GREAT (!!) golf course, probably every bit as good as
Worcester C.C. Jim O'Leary, the Professional is a real gentleman.
The front 9 is Donald Ross and is hilly. It caters to faders. Do not
knock it over the green. The back 9 is Stiles and Van Kliek and is one
of the longest, tightest (from the tips) 9's you will EVER see. I love
Oak Hill and have probably played it 5 times or so. I'm glad to see
your league has lined you up with a real golf course for such a special
event. I could never figure out why guys would play in a league all
year just to pay a greens fee at another Publinx for an outing. Good
job!

Jack,
it sounds exciting! The thanks should all go to the
officers of the DEC Maynard Golf League. They are the ones who made
this possible.

| 961.3 | A nice little course | AKOFIN::WOODRUFF | Tue Jun 12 1990 11:16 | 21 | |
I have been a member of Oak Hill for eleven years and I would consider
it a very interesting course. There are really two completely
different courses in one. The front nine is a good challenge but not
unfair to the average golfer. The back nine is another matter. There
are 6 par 4's with the shortest being a dogleg left which measures 398
yards, the fairways are narrow and tree lined. The following is the
yardage and par of each of the holes on the backside.
10 par 5 - 455 uphill
11 par 4 - 425 dogleg left
12 par 4 - 425 dogleg left
13 par 3 - 183
14 par 4 - 425 fairway bunker @ 350yds accross 75%
of fairway
15 par 4 - 458
16 par 4 - 398 dogleg left
17 par 3 - 142 water
18 par 4 - 441 fairway bunker @ 375yds accross 75%
of fairway last 140 yds uphill
Have fun

| 961.4 | We're Talking LONG !! | ASABET::VARLEY | Wed Jun 20 1990 09:46 | 18 | |
I was at Oak Hill yesterday for the US-Ireland college matches and was
very unimpressed with the course condition compared to the way it
normally is. Quite a few marked off areas, and the greens were rock
hard, and very grainy. Apparently they had been top dressed recently
(but the holes in the greens were closed up already), but there was
still a lot of sand on the putting surface.
I love this golf course, but right now it ain't normal. BTW, you
should have seen one of the Irish kids hit it on the back 9 from the
blue tees (although the blues weren't as far back as they can be). I
regard the back 9 as a long, tight and tough test of golf and this kid
never hit more than 3 iron 8 iron or 3 iron PW into any par 4. The
holes go up to 452 yards (that one is seriously uphill) and play long.
The same kid hit 7 iron-PW INTO THE WIND on a 400 yard downhill-uphill
par 4 at Dedham on monday. I know both courses well, and I saw him hit
at least 4 three irons that traveled 270 yards. This is fact, and there
was very little roll involved. Ahhh, to be young and strong...
