959.1 | Cory Pavin is another (?) | NRADM::MCKINNON | grab a bag of bats, killer | Fri Jun 01 1990 08:52 | 17 |
| Within the last three weeks, I have stopped wearing a glove. I took
some lessons from Dan Diskin @ the Golf School at Stow Acres and he
changed my grip (among other things). When I went to the driving range
to work on them, I left the glove off (to get a better look at my
knuckles, I guess). The next time I went out to play a round, I put
the glove on while waiting to tee off, took a few practice swings, and
it felt sort of funny. So, off came the glove and I haven't worn one
since. I can only think of a couple of times when I my hands may
have slipped. Other than that, I think I have better feel now. And
it's kind of funny, after spending a lot of time on the practice tee, I
developed a blister on my right hand (normally wear the glove on the
left).
I believe Cory Pavin is another touring Pro sans glove.

959.2 | Cleanliness is next to .... | ODIXIE::WESTCL | Gator Golfer | Fri Jun 01 1990 09:21 | 6 |
| I quit wearing a glove several years ago. I found that a glove wet
from either perspiration or rain was slicker than my skin. If you keep
your grips clean and your hands clean (I carry a damp towel) you will
like playing sans glove.

959.3 | A pinch | AKOV11::FEENEY | non golfers live half a life | Fri Jun 01 1990 09:38 | 8 |
| I do not wear a glove. The pro who taught me recommended I don't so he
could look at my hand for blisters to see if I have been gripping the
club properly. I find that if my swing goes bad my hands reinforce the
fact because they will begin to feel a pinch. The location of the pinch
tells me more about the swing problem. Also, I think it is less bother
as I notice people are always taking them off and complaining about
their expense as well.

959.5 | Only in the winter !!! | RAYBOK::COOPER | MAD HACKER | Fri Jun 01 1990 14:55 | 5 |
| I wear gloves during the winter because my hands get so cold
they hurt. As soon as it warms up though, off come the gloves.
I have much better feel bare-handed and feel that with a proper
grip the club won't slip. I also keep my grips very clean and
even rough them up with a "greenie" about twice a month.

959.6 | I like full tans | CHRLIE::HUSTON | | Mon Jun 04 1990 14:00 | 9 |

I only wear a glove in the rain, it seems to help the slipping, other
than that I never wear one, hate the things, I get a better feel
without it and as long as the grips stay dry I like it better,
besides, as Peter implied, having a tan with one white hand looks
kind of strange.

959.7 | Try it once and see. You might be impressed. | 5WOOD::FITZPATRICK | Today my jurisdiction ends here. | Mon Jun 11 1990 10:14 | 17 |
| When I first started playing, I had my uncle's old set, with
15-year-old leather grips, so I actually used 2 gloves so I could hang
on to the club. When I got my new clubs, I went back to using only one
glove, and didn't think much about it.
Yesterday I played Maplewood, and since I had taken my glove in the
house to dry it out after playing a couple of weeks ago, I didn't have
a glove with me. Rather than shell out to buy a new one, I decided to
try playing gloveless (in part due to some of the discussion in this
note). Well, I shot a 4-over-par 39 on the front nine, including an
EAGLE 2 on the 6th hole! Of course, I fell apart on the back nine, but
the club felt so good on the front, and my hand didn't get ripped to
shreds either, that I don't think I'll ever use a glove again (at least
until I have an absolutely horrible round and need to change
something).
