| I agree. I didn't see yesterday but, in addition to golf playoffs, he
is virtually the only segment of the game that has excitement and
intensity.(even better when Greg is in a playoff himself. ( Fuzzy vs
Greg was one of the best)

935.2 | CLASS ACT ALL THE WAY | DPDMAI::VENEZIO | MY other car is a GOLFCART | Tue May 08 1990 17:00 | 24 |
| Here's a little more on the Shark worth sharing
This past week the tour came to TX. The Shark was naturally one of the
big draws. Greg was on the putting green and driving range after he
completed play on Saturday and needless to say had quite a gathering.
When his practice was done he headed to the clubhouse. In typical
fashion the autograph seekers were on him in no time. I watched this
process from short distance and noticed Greg would not leave until
every fan that wanted an autograph got one.
He managed the crowd or should I say mob in an orderly fashion and was
as cordial as could be.
Now this is from someone who had warmed up for an hour, played a four
and one half hour round, practiced for another hour and still had time
for everyone. He even carries his own pen for those that didn't have
one.
I think this tells you alot about what a class act this man really is.

BTW: There are plenty of players out there who won't give you the right
time of day. Maybe the baseball players who have to charge $10. for a
signature can learn something.

| I always liked the story about the hecklers at the U.S. Open
who were gettig on Norman pretty heavy. He invited them to meet
him in the parking lot after the round but nobody showed up !!

and MTCW, what he did for that kid with luekemia(?) giving him the
trophy and really winning for him is one of the great sport stories
of all time, the Shark has heart, no question.
We need him to make up for Bruce Devlin,Jack Fleck, Mark C and the
rest of the "ego" jerks that both tours have.
Tommy Aaron and Dudley Wysong Jr are two of thenicest guys on Seniors
tour also along with, Chick Evans .

935.5 | Boswell on golf personalities | DICKNS::F_MCGOWAN | Zoot who? | Wed May 09 1990 13:57 | 8 |
| Check Tom Boswell's column (in Golf, I think...getting three mag's
does make it confusing) in which he discusses some of the person-
alities of pro golfers he knows...it may shed light on some
of the guys who get bashed from time to time (of course, you can
always disregard what he has to say, if it disagrees with what you
think, eh?). Some of his most negative comments are on Tom Weiskopf.

| I'm an absolutely HUGE Norman fan, and isn't it unique that probably
the most popular golfer in the U.S. is an Aussie ? Golf - the great
equalizer...

935.7 | A measure of revenge | HKFINN::F_MCGOWAN | Zoot who? | Tue May 15 1990 20:08 | 7 |
| After all the flukey losses he's had inflicted, Greg got some kind
of poetic justice at the Memorial, when his even par score for 54
holes turned out to be good enough to win. I was happy for him,
but quite disappointed at no 4th round on Sunday. It would have
been interesting to see how he would have handled starting the final
18 in the lead, instead of 6 to 10 strokes behind.
