Here in the land of 12 month golf and ever escalating
green fees a new ray of light appeared. With the advent
of winter and the annual influx of tourists and snowbirds
and $40-$60 green fees a new, reasonably priced course
opened up Saturday giving hope to those of us accustomed
to a lot less golf until May 1st. I don't have the full
story yet but I have heard that it is a county course
and therefore charging us taxpaying golfers way less
than semi-private (semi-public) courses.
The fees are only $9.00 for nine and $15.00 for 18. Carts
are $16.00 but the course is fairly flat so walking shouldn't
be too much of a problem.
This may not seem to be too much good news to those living in
the winter-belt but to those of us out here it is a godsend.
All these high priced courses out here just bleed the public
for all they can and those that support the high priced courses
in the summer get left out when the weather turns cool. (Summer
fees are about one-half the winter rates and there are all sorts
of coupon deals in the summer.)
Now it remains to be seen if this new course takes the load
off the other inexpensive courses and makes tee times more
readily available.

Harold,
The price one pays for living in the Sun Belt! Summer time golf
here in Mass. runs me about $30 on a weekend and if you add a cart
your into the $40 range. The price of golf in going up everywhere.
However, I would enjoy your problem right now, the month of Dec.
in New England has been 13 degrees below normal, NO golf here!
Anyway, I am scheduled to be in Phoenix in Feb. I have been to Tuscon,
Ventana Canyon and I was in Phoenix in Oct. golf courses are plentiful.
Can you shared some of your first hand knowledge on the Courses in
Phoenix/Scottsdale area? I have read special issues in Golf Digest,
read marketing lit. while in Az. What I would like in your opinion,
a native living there.
Best courses, public, resort?
Best places to stay?
thanks,
Allen
