| Hi larry, Where are you coming from? wachusett is located in
w.Boylston, not far from what used to be Pinecroft dairy.
If you take route 12 into town it's only a mile from the
intersection of 12 and 140.

| Thanks for the offers of directions (& offers to play). The
Maynard Golf League is having their banquet there (& was a little
late sending directions). They finally arrived. There posted
here for those who may be looking for them in the future.
Take 290 West to the 140 North (W. Boylston) exit.
Continue on 140 past the first signal (Route 70) and the
Wachusett Reservoir and continue into the town of
West Boylston.
Take a left on Franklin Street (after the turn for the
Industrial Area). If you get to the second
light at the intersection of 140 and 12 you have
gone about one block too far.
Continue on Franklin Street, across Route 12, until it
dead-ends on Prospect Street. Turn left on Prospect
and WCC is about 1 mile on the left.

and that will be Wachusett.

You've got that right...I'm a local and play they're quite often,
mostly because it's convient and a challenging layout. But I'll tell
you this, I've never seen anybody treat paying customers the way that
man does. OUTRIGHT RUDE!!!

Given the comments about the owner maybe the behaviour of the
waitresses doesn't seem so strange. At our table one of the
people asked for another cup of coffee. they we told they had
to wait for dessert. When dessert came another person assked
for a clean cup because there cup was 1/2 full and cold (because
they had been dancing). They were told no.

| Larry,
it doesn't suprise me you got such rude treatment. I would give
the game up before I gave that guy a nickel.
At least the Pages(previous owners at Stow) could be real funny!!
Mr Rogers they were not, but at least they were human.
What this guy needs a visit from the "Fresh Pond " welcoming
committe. I'll tell you sometime.True Story.

The Pages may have been okay, but the old fellow that was the
weekend starter at Stow was the absolute worst. I don't know if he still
works there now, but there was no excuse for his attitude.
I've seen Dave Trull (Trull Brook) have a few fits. But think
about it, if you owned a public course and people constantly complain about
everything, ball marks are not fixed regularly, nor are divots, and drove
golf carts in such a manner that the course is damaged. I do not condone
rude behavior by anyone, ever, but I can empathize with the owners and what
they must go through week after week.
Golf is such a friendly game; it's too bad this stuff goes on...

I got a good Wachusett story for you.
A couple of years ago, myself and 4 others went to wachusett to golf.
We were told in no uncertain terms by the "gentlman" at the counter
that we could not play a fivesome. That was understood before we had
even got to the course. We had already decided to play a 3 and a 2. We
were at the 9th tee when several groups in front of us had made
fivesomes and sixsomes because it was really backed up. We decided to
do the same. Well shame on us. We were coming off the 10th green when
this afore mentioned "gentleman" rode over in his cart and said, and I
quote, "I thought I told you a**holes that you couldn't play a
fivesome." I said to him that several groups in front of us had done it
so we thought it would be ok. I told him that there was no problem, we
would go bact to a 2 and a 3. He took off ahead of us, right down the
middle of the fairway, so we had to wait to hit. We started to tee off,
with myself being the last of the three. He was coming back and was
saying something which I couldn't hear. again, he drove right down the
middle of the fairway so I couldn't hit. He told us it was ok for the
others because they were better golfers than us. No I was getting
pissed. Granted, we were not scratch golfers, all of us usually hitting
between 90 to 100, but I felt there was no cause for a remark like
that. I said to him that there was no reason to talk like that,
especially with a lady around. One of the guys girlfriend was walking
with us. He said if he was in his right mind, he would throw us off the
course. All this time he was still sitting in front of the tee so I
couldn't hit. I got pissed again and said, "Sir, just go ahead and
throw me off, but I want my money back for the holes I couldnt play
because of you." He had me go back to the pro shop. When I got back, he
asked for my license. He took my name and adress down and told me that
I should watch my language. I said WHAT!!!!!!! I had the courtesy to
call you sir and you came out and swore in front of us. Now mind you I
swear once in a while - well more than once in a while, but I never
once swore at this "gentleman" Then, when I was putting my clubs in
my car, he sent his son out to take my license plate number. His son
also appologized for his father for being rude., which I thought was
pretty good of him. He was just sort of looking at us in the pro shop
with a look like, "Well, here we go again." Needless to say, I hadn't
played the course for a while, untill this summer when I decided to
give it a try. When I got there, he was sitting at the pro shop. He
looked up, told us the price, we paid and I played. He must have a
short memory because when I got finished he asked me how I did and I
showed him my 96 and he didn't say to much so I guess I can play
Wachusett again.

| Phil,
Good Story
The Fresh Pond Story, to which I can attest since I played there
continually from 1972 to 1984, is as follows:
Sunday morning, the starter sees a NINESOME coming down the 9th
fairway.(9 hole course). Time is about 8. Course opened at 7 on
Sundays.
The starter(John Sullivan) says"what the hell are you guys doing???"
One spoksman says: "Were going to play here EVERY Sunday, tee off
at 7, not bother or hold any one up, pay you when we are done,
go off as a fivesome and foursome and come down the 9th as
a NINESOME because we have A LOT OF MONEY RIDING on the MATCH.
John says you can't do it!
The spoksman says "WERE GOING TO DO IT ,NOT BOTHER ANYONE,
UNLESS YOU BOTHER US"
" We live in the North End and this course IS VERY HANDY"
Each Morning, for the summer, two new Cadillacs, BLACK,STRECH,
pulled up on Sundays, DIDN'T bother anyone, played and left
after 9 holes. Rumor was it was $100,000 9 hole match.
Never saw them again after 1977.
In 1978 they go to WOODLAND GOLF COURSE(Private)
A Fresh Pond Golfer who joined this club relates this story.
To the club pro:"WE want to play this course ONCE"
Club Pro: "Sorry sir you can't, it's private"
Spokesman:"Not only am I playing, but those other 8 guys out
there are joining me" "We will bother no one" And we will be
very UNHAPPY if you don't let us play .It's WEDNESDAY and
we are very fast"
Club Pro starts to get the feeling this is not a normal group !!
Especially with 2 black stretch Caddys on his door step!
They played one round, and left never to be seen again.

Is this course any good? How does it compare to, say, Stowe
North? Or Trull Brook?
Thanks - Tom

800.11 | This Might Be Controversial... | POWDML::VARLEY | | Thu Jun 10 1993 12:27 | 24 |
| IMO, a LOT better than Trull Brook. Quite different than Stow (North) -
not a lot of strong par 4s at Wachusett. Small greens with a lot of
hidden contours - better greens, I think. They'll hold better, too.
Wachusett was designed originally by Donald Ross, and he had great land
to work with.
Come to think of it, #s 6,8 and 9 at Wachusett are pretty strong 4s, in
fact, #9 at Stow is the only relly strong 4 there, so disregard my
previous comment.
If you play Stoe, you'll get a chance to see a course that will host
the U.S. Publinx in '95, but the course you play will be set up much
different than for the tournament.
People are very nice at Wachusett, and to me, it's a better golf course
- and I've played 'em both a lot! Again, just my opinion. Wachusett is
also very pretty, with some nice views of the reservoir, and has a very
nice pub. Goofy starting hole, but lots of very good holes. Definitely
worth a trip. Both courses are close by, so why not play 'em both and
tell us what you think ? I've been wrong before... Note that I did not
say much about Trull Brook here. O.k. place, but not in the same class
as the other two.

trying to get info that compared it to courses I know and that's
just what you gave me!!
Time for a vac day,

800.13 | Trull, good ol' high pressure dave | AKOCOA::BREEN | Soon, just baseball and golf | Fri Jun 11 1993 18:17 | 15 |
| To give ol' Dave Trull his due he did inherit some nice scenic holes.
Two elevated tee par 3s, particularly #15 which was featured among top
public course holes once.
Mostly thought trull is simply contrived into too little land with
holes passing back and forth too close. Seems everyone has a ball
strikes (wo)man story out of trull.
And if you ever want to run a league there be prepared for a lot of
stress and post a "beginners need not apply"
