775.0. "Golf Course Management Software" by MLTVAX::ARMSTRONG () Thu Sep 28 1989 19:40

    I hope someone out there can help me. I have a friend who is
    dead-set on building a golf course and wants to computerize
    all the operations. He doesn't know what he wants, but asked
    me to find it for him.

    Being a golfer, I can make guesses at what he wants. If I
    was managing a golf course, it would probably nice to have
    an electronic sign-in to not only keep track of $$ from
    greens fees but to keep a database of names and addresses
    (electronic mailing list).

    How about a program that members use to enter their scores
    electronically instead of posting them on paper. It would
    have to tie to USGA somehow. It would be nice if the program
    also could calculate a golfers home course handicap.

    As with any business, there would be a need for accounting
    software, inventory control, etc. Can anyone think of a
    reason that such packages would need to be golf-specialized?

    If any of you noters have ever run a golf course, or worked
    at one, or knows someone who runs/owns a golf course, can
    you tell me if there are any companies who sell golf course
    specific software? Can you provide any names of people to
    contact who might be able to help me? Can anyone give me some
    sense of direction?

    Thanks in advance.

    Patti

775.1Software package for handicaps already exist?MPGS::GOGUENFri Sep 29 1989 09:407
    I was at Oak Hill CC this year and it looked to me like they have a
    software package for handicaps for the members. I didn't take a close
    look, so I may be wrong. You could call them if you like. Oak Hill is
    located in Fitchburg, MA.

    Hi Patti,

    I was at Farm Neck Country Club on Martha's Vineyard this past spring,
    and they too have gone computerized.....I actually could put my
    score in down there and it went directly to USGA Ghin handicapping.
    I believe I had to plug in my ghin # and my home course, along with
    my score down there, and possibly my handicap/index.

    We have the same thing here in Phoenix at my home course, Cave Creek.
    Ties right into the national. Works great.

    Thanks for your replies about the handicap program. I've heard the
    same from several people. Bet it can be acquired right from USGA.
    If I learn any more about it, I'll post the information in case
    anyone is interested.

775.5One is available!ENOFIN::RAHEJAWed Oct 18 1989 12:5010
    Wish I could be more specific but heard on the TV the other day
    about a golf management software package that is getting rave reviews.
    It not only includes the basics but also has a computerised tee
    time reservation system that you can call up on the phone and by
    punching the appropriate numbers in response to questions, get a
    tee time reserved. No more getting up at 4 a.m. to get to the club
    house to get a tee time. If I see the report again, I will try
    and get the name of the outfit. Maybe someone else saw it too.

775.6My interest is peaked!MLTVAX::ARMSTRONGFri Oct 20 1989 14:009
    Wow! That sounds great. Where are you from and on which station did
    the ad appear? (That sounds like a funny question, but it could make
    a difference as to availability.)

    It's nice to know that such a package is available. Do you recall if
    any connections were made to specific hardware or who sells it (big
    or small company, well known/noname)?

775.7USGA Handicap SoftwareGWYNED::DWHITETue Oct 23 1990 20:3413
    Patti:

    I donated an IBM compatible PC and set up the USGA handicaping system
    at my home course Laconia Country Club, Laconia NH. The USGA supplies the
    software but charges a flat fee of $5/member/year. It is an excellant
    handicapping program but is limited to scoring and "electronic
    billboard messaging". I have been looking around for a complete golf
    operations management package that would run on a microvax. I am told
    that there is a Digital CMP that markets such a package but I haven't
    found it yet. The USGA package is good. I have a demo diskette here in
    MR01.
