| I stopped by the course on Sunday. There was a sign stating that
they will open on Saturday the 9th.
Flags were in and mowing crews out in force, but no sign of golfers.

| Anyone play the course this weekend. Is it true the green fees
are $50! I was real entusiastic about all the new courses being built
in the area. It was supposed to invoke the supply & demmand theory
providing more courses hopefully leveling off the price of green
fees or even seeing them drop slightly. What it looks like now
is that we will be paying $50-$60 to play the likes of Green Meadow
& Amherst! In another 5-10 years we may be in the situation now
facing Japan golfers, we'll be playing 1 or 2 rounds of golf a year
and scheduling tee times at the driving range!

| Well, I didn't play, but I checked it out. I plan on playing this
weekend.
The green fees are $20 for 18 on weekends and $15 on weekdays. Cart
rentals are $20 for weekdays and $18 for weekdays. They do not have
prices for 9 holes yet, but the pro mentioned something about returning
half of what you paid if you only play 9.
Right now they are working out of trailers. One for thepro shop and
one for the food stand.
Here is a list of the holes:

Gadzooks, the back 9 looks tough. Even though it's par-35
(compared to 36 for the front), it's a lot longer:

of close to $50/round.

742.9 | Do not need carts. | XANADU::CAMPBELL | It's only a CRIME if you get caught! | Tue Sep 12 1989 12:52 | 9 |
| Hi,
Carts are not mandatory. Also, the course is not very hilly, so
I wouldn't think there would be a big need for a cart.
I'm playing there this weekend. I'll post a note on how it is, if
no one else does before then.

742.10 | My ever so humble opinion | SA1794::WELLSPEAK | Knocking at your back door... | Thu Sep 14 1989 08:01 | 9 |
| I agree with .7, that back 9 looks longer than your average
PGA tour course!!! I personnaly don't like the layout, as far as
distance of holes go. I wouldn't mind so much, if you had 1 short
par 4 (300-350 yards), 2 middle distant par 4s (350-390 yards) and
2 long par 4s (390-470 yards), but having the mostly short to middle
distant par 4s on the front, and all very long par 4s on the back
is not, in my opinion, very good design.

742.11 | Sounds really interesting... | XANADU::CAMPBELL | It's only a CRIME if you get caught! | Thu Sep 14 1989 11:38 | 18 |
| Well I happened to meet up with someone who played the course and he
said it has it's difficult holes, but most of them are straight and
forgiving.
He said that the 3 hole, a par 4, is tough. You need to drive 200+
yards over weeds and marsh to make the fairway, but if you go too
far, you're in another marsh. Then it's another 180-200 yards to
the green over marsh.
I think I'll take a 10 and save my golf balls on that hole.
He also said that if you stray from the fairways, you end up in lots
of hills and mounds.
Looking forward to this torchure on Sunday...

742.12 | Really nice course... | MANANA::CAMPBELL | It's only a CRIME if you get caught! | Mon Sep 18 1989 11:05 | 20 |
| Well the weather held off enough to get in 18 holes.
I must say, this course is great. Being newly opened, I think it's
in great shape. The greens were terrific and challenging.
The back nine was not as bad as it looked. In fact I did better on
the back nine. It's long, but forgiving.
They also had marshals every few holes to keep the pace going. They
also had marshals near the hazards to locate fouled shots so the
players wouldn't be spending time looking.
I played 18 in just over 4 hours and wasn't rushed at all.
I'm going back this weekend. The prefer tee times and that you have
a foursome, but they will take twosomes.

742.13 | Loooooooong | NSG018::STOPERA | | Tue Oct 24 1989 14:02 | 25 |
| Well, I just played there the other day to try it out. I played the
blue tees and I have to tell you that holes 15 and 16 are loooooong,
it's crazy, 478 then 473 yard par 4's. I hit the ball pretty well off
the tee, but to have a 230 yard 2nd shot is crazy after a good drive.
Not only that they put a bunker 30 yards short of the green on both
holes to catch short shots, I don't know about anyone else, but to me a
30 yard bunker shot is one of the hardest shots in golf. I did hit the
16th in 2 though with a 1 iron on my 3 try. I really don't think the
average player will like the course because of it's length.
Typical Cornish & Silva design though, deep greens where you need to
hit as much a 2 clubs more or less depending on where the pin is
located, well bunkered around the greens and fairways, really nice
shape for a new course, although the greens were very long.
Didn't like the 5th hole, a 521 yard par 5 over a marsh, with a brook
after the marsh that you can't see from the tee. Didn't like #8, 394
yard par 4 but from the blue tees you have to hit it 220+ to clear a
brook, otherwise you have to play an iron off the tee and have a very
long iron into the green. Hole #12 is long (460) par 4 but more
reachable than 15 and 16. And 15 and 16, well those are the longest par
4's I've ever played.
Before you play there I'd go out and buy a 2 wood or pratice you driver
from the fairway.

I'm not complaining, just mearly stating my opion of the course,
actually I like the course, although I think that they should some how
incorporate some of the long holes into the front 9, which is short.
They last 7 holes will be the toughest 7 finishing holes you'll ever
face.

My wife and I just played the new course yesterday. We only had
time for 9 so they put us on the back 9. I found the back nine to
be long but not that too long. In fact I liked it. I shot a 43.
which isn't too bad since I have a 10 hdcp and I haven't played
in about a month. I pared the long par 5 and boggied the other.
The only gripe I had about the course was the hdcp for the women.
It was very inconsistent. Hole # 10 is 419yds from the red tees.
But it's a par 4 for them women and a par 5 for the men. Then a
couple of holes later the red tees are 418 yds from the green yet
it's a par 5. There really isn't much difference between the 2 holes.
Hole 17 is a par 3 for men at 192 yds and a par 4 for women at 172
yds. So I hit the ball and it lands in the bunker pin high. My wife
takes out a 5 iron and proceeds to put the ball 5' from the pin.
I then chip out of the trap and my ball ends up 6' from the pin
lying 2, while my wife is lying 1, but in league play she'd be lying
0 because I'd have to give her a stroke because of the hdcp difference.
My wife and I enjoyed the course (at least the back 9) and am looking
forward to playing there next year.
Mike
