739.0. "Yet another lowly beginner." by JAILER::TRIPP () Mon Aug 28 1989 16:38

I have been playing for a couple of months and so far have not been
able to achieve any consistancy whatsoever. I'll hit a good shot
and then follow it up with a really lousy shot and so forth. Any
way I was wondering if any of you golfers out there could recommend
some videos and books that might have helped you in your game.

    					Any input is appreciated

The best way that could can spend your time and your money in
improving your game is to take a few lessons from a professional.
99% of the time, inconsistency is due to fundamental problems -- a
bad grip, for example. Every once in a while, you'll be able to
compensate and hit a decent shot, but in the long run, you will
always be inconsistent unless the basic foundation is solid.

There are several notes in this conference recommending teaching
pros ... or, you could just go to the course where you play
       and ask at the clubhouse.

Get Ben Hogan's 1954 classic"the five fundementals of the golf swing".
Still the biggest seller of all time. I've handed out at least 6
copies to freinds and one son. Angelo

I can reccommend many books, ie: 'How to bowl', 'How to swim',
    'How to play checkers'.... etc.

I have been playing golf for many years now.... and i am still
    inconsistent as hell...

If you find one, THAT WORKS, please let me in on it.

re: 0

There are two good fairly good books on GOLF MECHANICS, and both have
associated videos. "Golf My Way," buy Jack Nicklaus, is a good place to
start. Both the book and video are well done. Another good book is
promoted by Golf Digest and written by Jack Fleck and Bob Toski -- I think
it is something like "The Fundamentals of Golf." I highly recommend the
video set by Toski and Fleck.

I found that the video "Golf My Way" by Jack and Ben Hogan's book
work well together. Both players seem to saying the same things. It
gives you a chance to both read and see it.

"How To Get Maximum Distance From Shanks" and "The Correct Stance
to Use When Taking Fourth Putt"
