Putting is a good part of my game. I usually average less then 2
putts a round. The best I remember was during a turnament when one
of the prizes was given for the least number of putts for 18. I
had 26 and lost to someone who had 19. How he got 19, I'll never
know.
True Story: Seems this pro had a bet with someone that he could
1 putt every hole during one round of 18 holes. Going into the 18th
he had 1 putted every hole. Then proceeded to loose the bet when
he sunk a 180yd shot with a 5 iron for a 0 putt on the 18th.

| My best for 18 holes was last year in the fall at Nichols College.
I had 29 putts which included 3 3 putt greens. I didn't play well
overall that day, shot a 97, but remember my father-in-law muttering
under his breath something about me being unconscious. I still get
a chuckle out of that one.

658.3 | HOW MANY PUTTS PER ROUND?? | BOGUSS::COOPER | MAD HACKER | Fri Jun 23 1989 20:16 | 11 |
| RE .1
When you figure average putts per round do you only count the holes
where greens were reached in regulation or is that average for the
total 18 holes no materr how many strokes it took to get on the
green. The reason I ask is that when I hit a lot of greens I take
more putts because I'm ususally farther from the hole when I start
putting. If I am missing a lot of greens I usually chip pretty close
so take less putts per round. On the tour the statistics are figured
on greens hit in regulation only.

| That's a very good point. The fewest number of putts that I
every remember taking in an 18 hole round, is 27. It sounds great
at first, but when I think about it, I really didn't play all that
well, as I chipped in twice from off the green, and had numerous
1 putts from inside 5 feet as my chipping that day, was what was
really unconscious for me. I average between 34 and 35 putts a
round, which I take to figure when hitting greens in regulation,
I probably average 2 or slightly higher, putts per hole.

| I usually make 30-33 putts per round. I don't keep track of greens
in regulation so I don't know how I'd fare there. For some reason,
I usually make 17-19 putts per 9-hole evening round. Twilight
blindness?
My best has been 28 putts when I shot an 86 last year. Nothing
worse than a 2-putt hole & no chip-ins. This past Saturday I sank
36 putts with three 3-putt holes and one 4-putt hole. I shot a
93. Using the standard of 2 putts per hole, I cost myself 5 strokes.

RE .3
No I couldn't do that. I don't make that many holes in regulation.
I'm not that good.8*) My putting is a major part of my game. Many
a times it's saved me a bogie or par. I can see where it will matter.
But even though I don't reach the green in regulation, I still have
many a 20-30 ft putts. With 20-30 ft putts I'll still average just
a little over 2.
This Sunday I played 9 holes with my wife at Amherst CC. I made
3 greens in regulation, and 1 putted one and 2 putted the rest.
Overall I averaged less then 2 putts for all the holes.
