| Gene,
I stand corrected in that I was not to clear.
Herbert Walker was George Bush's Mother's father!

| George Bush was interviewed by Steve Melnick of CBS after the Kemper
concluded its' Saturday round. Did you catch it? He has also gotten
alot of press about golf in Kinnebunkport (sp.). The player in the
cabinet is Quayle. He's has a single digit handicap at Congressional
(site of the '64 Open and '76 PGA) and Burning Tree. Two tough courses.
Besides Kitty, whats the Dukes' handicap? :-) Or is he a badmitten
man himself?

Can you name the playing partner of Nicklaus in the final
round of the 1986 Masters? I had forgotten all about him
until I saw a tape of the thrilling last day recently.

Sandy Lyle it was. The poor guy looked like he was in a state
of shock on the back nine. It seemed like he was quickly trying
to get out of Jack's way so he could watch "another long putt"
drop in the hole with the rest of the gallery. I had also forgotten
how close Tom Kite came to winning the tournament. He had several
very makeable putts on that back nine and came up short on each
and every one of them.

639.7 | GO FLY A KITE !!! | BOGUSS::COOPER | MAD HACKER | Fri Jun 23 1989 20:04 | 9 |
| So, is Tom Kite going to become the king of choke ?? I know he has
a great record, third leading money winner, all that stuff. But
when is he going to hold on and win a major ? It has always been
a blemish on Sam Sneads record that he didn,t win the U.S. Open
and no matter what he says, I'm sure he would give up several of
his other wins for 1 Open title. Oh well, Tom's career is far from
over and he should have plenty of great golf left to play but he
sure let a golden opportunity slip away!!!!!!

| re .7 and others:
Andy North has won 2 US Opens, Tom Kite has won none.
Kite is 3rd on the all-time money winning list, and he is likely
to lead the list before long. He's had the character and stamina
to play well in hundreds of tournaments, winning more than his
share of them. He did indeed fall apart in the last round of this
year's Open, and he has never won a major. His accomplishments,
even though they don't include any major championships, stand by
themselves. To characterize a player who has known so much
success on the tour as a potential "king of choke" doesn't seem to
demostrate much insight into the game.
The Mad Hacker can have Andy North on his team. I'll take
Tom Kite.

Bill Rogers and Tom Watson.

You can have Kite. I have never liked him and I can't really explain
why. I met him last year at the AT&T at Pebble Beach and I just
can't seem to warmup to him. Also had the same problem with Nicklaus
during his early years but that was because he kept beating my
all-time golf hero ARNOLD PALMER!!!!! Kite is to critical of
himself when he makes a mistake and I feel this will continue to
haunt him in the majors due to the added pressure the players
put on themselves in these events. As for Andy North, what a laugh!
You really cracked me up with that one Mr. Topaz.

| My brother in-law played football at the University of Wisconsin
and became very close friends with ANDY as he is an avid football
fan. We may joke about his lack of tournament appearances lately,
however most of that is by choice. The guy make$ a killing going
around the country participating in Company sponsered tournaments
and conducting seminars. How does he do this? By touting the fact
that he has won 2 U.S. Opens.
About a month ago he played in my in-laws Company Golf outing and
only charged them $6,000 for a day of golf. I wonder how much the
"Kite Bite" gets?
