578.0. "Information about Hogan Edge" by TKTV05::KAWAMURA_Y (OHSAKA/FS/襤¼) Mon Apr 17 1989 21:16

Hello Folks,

This is a first time to post the Note for me.
I'd like to get the some information from the Note.

I work in Japan and I'm going to the US for training in May for a month.
My friend asked me to buy a Hogan Wedge iron set in US.
	It's cheaper than in Japan.
But I don't know where I can buy it.
Would anyone give me a information about the shop sold the Hogan Edge
	and average price of it?
	Nevada Bob sells it?
I'm going to stay in New England area.
The information around the New England will be better.

Best regards,

				Yoshikazu Kawamura

    Kawamura-san:

The Hogan Edge clubs are in great demand. To the point that Hogan is
advertising (in this month's Golf Digest) that the demand was so
great that they have long waiting lines.

So I recommend that if your friend REALLY wants the EDGE, that you
arrange with someone to order them now. Maybe the people at the
Japan Sales Desk in GIA Headquarters can help you. I think his name
    is Horizawa-san.

The price is around $450 for 3-PW. I know that Stow Acres Country
Clubs sells them. I think that Nevada Bobs also carries Hogans, same
as New England Golf Supply in Marlboro.

I'll probably play at Stow Acres on Friday, so I will ask for a
    delivery estimate.

Thank you for your quick replies and kindness, Mr. Brundige and Mr. Diaz

Re .1	I'm going to stay in Lowell, MA. for a month.

Re .2 I'm surprised to hear the price in US.
The price in Japan is about $1000 for 3-PW.
	Too expensive!!!!

By the way, are there any golf cource I can get there within a hour
from Lowell, MA. I'd like to play a couple of round while staying in US.

Best regards,

Kazz

P.S. I myself be going to purchase a Ping Eye 2 and Taylor Made Tour Silver
     woods.

Here are some courses in the Lowell, Ma. area. These are all within
15 minutes to 1 hour of Lowell. I'm not sure of this year's prices,
maybe someone else can help me out...

    	>	Green Meadow Hudson, NH (36 holes)
    	>	Trull Brook Tewksbury, Ma (18 holes)
    	>	Hickory Hills Methuen, Ma (18 holes)
    	>	Crystal Spring Haverhill, Ma (18 holes)
    	>	Hoodcroft Derry, NH (9 holes)
    	>	Amherst CC Amherst, NH (18 holes)
    	>	Derryfield Manchester, NH (18 holes)
	>	Whiporwill Hudson, NH (9 holes)

..and, a little more than an hour, but a nice course--

    	>	Charmingfare Candia, NH	(18 holes)

..I've also heard of a course in Lowell (or maybe Tewksbury) called
Longmeadow, but I'm not sure if it is public or private.

I asked in Stow Acres and the pro wasn't there, so I could only find
    out price. $480.

But I asked at another Store in the area, New England Golf Supply in
Marlboro and they sell them for $449 with an estimated delivery time
of 3 months. He gave me the impression that he could get them a
    little bit sooner.

He made the comment that Hogan is shipping a good part of its
production, yes you guessed it, to Japan, because of the price they
    can get there!

    re: .5

around 1960 the Ben Hogan company was sold to AMF...

last year it was sold by AMF to a company in Japan....the new
company is shipping the club back home to get more money for them
I was also told this was being done by the new owners and that
was why there was a long delay in getting them....

wait three years and they'll be overstocked everywhere and you'll
get a good price on them...

    Just wondering........
........Did you end up buying the Edges or are you still here in
    the U.S.??????

I also wanted a set of Edges, but talked myself out of them. They
will be the last "Hogan only design" since his company did sell......

My South Carolina pro has a set of #1 thru SW(with PW), but they
do have a stiff shaft(Hogan's #4) if you are interested. They have
been used for only a few rounds. He could ship them!

Hope you enjoyed golf here in America. I played in Japan in 1954(Camp
Zama) and again in 1976 while working at NEC's Fuchu City plant
    for the year.

Let me know if I can help you out on the Edges.

578.8I'm interested in it.TKTV05::KAWAMURA_YOHSAKA/FS/襤¼Mon May 22 1989 02:1718
Hello Tom,

Yes, I've enjoyed very much. I've already played three times.
The course I played was very beautiful. I've never played like there
in Japan. The most of the courses in Japan are located mountain area.
We have to walk up and down. It looks like mountain climbing , not
	playing golf.

By the way, I'm interested in the used Hogan's.
I could not find out Hogan Edges around here. But, I have to go back
	to Japan this weekend.
	I have three questions;
	1. Can he ship it to Japan?
	2. What price is it?
	3. How do I pay for? Money order or credit card?
	Thank you.
Best regards,
Kazz
