575.0. "Recommendations for Metrowest Beginner?" by NRPUR::GREENE () Tue Apr 11 1989 16:56

    I am interested in learning how to play golf. Anyone know any good
    areas of recommendation in the Wellesley, Weston, Wayland, Chestnut
    Hill, or Brookline area. What is the best way to hook up with others
    who play at my level?

575.1"TRY THE BEST for the PURPOSE"OURVAX::GLASSWed Apr 12 1989 09:3013
    Susan,
    Monica Darling is at her father's course in Northboro(Juniper Hill)
    and is a Professional Golf Association(PGA) certified teacher. She
    is very good as a teacher and they maintain a practice area there
    for those who take or have taken lessons.

    It's a great game. My wife is back at it after a 15 year lay-off
    and my one daughter has played for over 20 years. It has turned
    out to be a great investment in family fun/harmony.

    Enjoy.

575.2DAVE HEUSER AT WAYLANDFAVAX::COVIELLOWed Apr 12 1989 13:1612
    HI:
    DAVE HEUSER at the Wayland Country Club offers two series of
    instruction. The one that I am in is a mini-series that consists
    of three, one-hour class lessons on the fundamentals. It cost $25.
    total. He also offers continuing series throughout the summer.
    I think they consist of six or eight hours of class lessons.

    He arranges these lessons through the Recreation Departments of
    local towns. Wellesley and Natick are two of them, you could
    probably reach him at Wayland to find out his remaining schedule.
    Good Luck.

    Susan,

    Another good place to check out is Martin Memorial (or Leo J. Martin),
    the MDC public course at the junction of RT 128, the Mass Pike, and RT
    30, in Weston. Every year they offer lesson specials for beginners and
    experienced golfers that is below the going rate. The pros there are
    PGA pros and if it matters to you, a ladies' pro (her first name is
    Sue, I can't recall her surname) was added to the staff. There is also
    a driving range there for practice after your lesson which is very
    beneficial.
