561.0. "AN idle question..." by CSCOA3::CONWAY_J (Golf and marriage are incompatible) Tue Mar 21 1989 14:48
My golf swing is a constantly evolving thing, and I feel that I have
made some good progress in the last year. (took some lessons,
more consistant practice, etc) I find that now I am standing much
more upright than before, and much closer to the ball as a result
of this. Also my ball position has moved a little to the right,
but not much with the woods. Now, my idle curiosity type question
is, given a really upright stance, could I benifit from clubs
having a flatter than standard lie? I swung a Ping #7 iron at PROGOLF
yesterday and the clubhead seemed to be further out than my standard
irons without changing my stance or doing any undue bending at the
waist. Is this a correct perception or an optical illusion? If
its correct, then will i have a wider swing arc, thus some extra
distance, by using the flat-lie clubs

561.1 | Upright vs flat lie... | MSEE::KELLEY | Custom clubs/club repair | Tue Mar 21 1989 15:37 | 12 |

Confused,
Idealy if you stand more upright then you would want clubs with
a more upright lie, not a flatter lie. If you stand more upright
the heal of the club will start to come off the ground, if you
use a club with a flatter lie than standard then this raising of
the heal of the ground will be even more pronounced...! This will
cause a tendancy to slice the ball...
Hope this helps...
