Greens fees are included (unlimited) for the year for 200.00. The
things you will have to pay for are carts, drinks, food etc.

539.3 | Seems like a good deal | JAWS::DIAZ | CMG/CDG/SAMG | Fri Mar 03 1989 13:10 | 27 |
| Re:< Note 539.2 by WMOIS::OUELLETTE >
I have never been a member on a club, but $200 for unlimited play for
a year sounds too good to be true. I spend that in two months at
Stow Acres!
Is there any gotcha?
Is it a semiprivate club? i.e., non-members can play also paying
greens fees. If so, will members have priority, will non-members be
allowed to play on weekends?
Can you walk or are you asked to always get a cart? Is there a
minimum consuption at the bar/restaurant per month, etc?
If there is no gotcha, I may convince my family to take it, and they
will stay at the pool while I am playing. Or my kids could stay
there while my wife finally gets to to play. Do you know if the pool
has a lifeguard?
The only draw back that I see is distance, how far would you say it
is from route 495? I live in Stow so it takes about 10- 15 minutes
from home to the intersection of Rt 2 and 495.
Thanks for your responses

Re -.1
You're right, it is an almost unbelievable deal, but its TRUE!!
1. Its open to the public.
2. Non-members can play on weekends.
3. You can walk or take a cart, thats optional.
4. No minimum purchase for food, drink, or pro-shop.
5. I'm not sure about the lifeguard, I'll check.
From Stow I'd say its around a 50 minute drive.
Its A decent course thats a bit out of the way, but you can usually
go and tee-off without much waiting. They are trying to build up
some business. 2 other courses in the area, Gardner and Westminster
seem to get the bulk of the business.

| I think the course you're talking about was originally called "ToyTown
Tavern", and was designed by none other than Donald Ross himself!
It supposedly fell into disrepair awhile back, and probably changed
hands at that point. I've never played it, but the worst Donald
Ross course is probably pretty damn good...

539.6 | My .02 cents | RATTLE::TLAPOINTE | | Fri Mar 03 1989 15:14 | 29 |
| I grew up playing this course. It's short but narrow as hell and
will give you a decent challenge. The greens are also quite small,
it's very hilly and all of it's par 5's can be reached in two if
you put two good shots together.
Along with "cheap" memberships they have had an ongoing "special"
for $15.00 for the general public. It includes Cart, 18 holes,
and a drink(Beer). The only requirement they state in the Ad is
that you must be in at least twosomes. They have been known to
let you play an unlimited amount, as long as you walk after the
first 18.
In the past few years they have lost a number of members to other
clubs for various reasons (Which I won't go into here). They do
allow you to put your own cart on the course if your a member for
a yearly fee. Quite a few of the members I know at the W.S.C.C.
do this.
In response to the fact that it was designed by Donald Ross; that's
true.... at least the original design was. My father still has
an original aerial photo of the course when it was first completed.
A few of the holes layouts have been changed over the years and
most of the greens, tees and sand traps have been altered somewhat
of the years.
If you would like anymore info on this course feel free to ask either
here in this note or on my E-mail.

539.7 | anyone played yet? | TOOK::RASPUZZI | Michael Raspuzzi | Tue May 02 1989 09:50 | 8 |
| Well, with my impending doom, er, I mean wedding, coming up I just
haven't had the time to trek up to Winchendon and play yet this year.
Has anyone played there yet? Is the course in pretty good shape for
this time of year? Is it real wet?
I imagine it will be a little wet after today's drenching.
