| Hi,
Mark shot a 41 on the back nine while Bill was at 38! Not the greatest
golf and a wonder that they were not beaten by Don P.!
Well, just consider that the four(4) days netted Mark ~$63K and
put him over $400K for the year to date.
The moral is "GOLF IS A GAME OF AVERAGES AND EVEN PROS MAKE MISTAKES
AND STILL WIN MONEY"!!!!!!!!!

| What do you think? Does Mark Calcavechia come out of his shoes,
or what? It's so funny hearing the commentators biting their tongues
everytime they slo-mo Marks swing... the silence is deafening. The
way he's eating up the circuit we all may see more empty golf shoes
at the tee area !! ;)
Anybody out there from New England climbing the walls yet? I find
it torture to watch people play in such great green weather...
Good thing is, the season is just around the corner (I hope).

Yeh, poor guy. All that winning must get to ya after a while. An
official musta told Mark to loose one or they were going to check
him for steroids! I've been watching the tour every weekend and
I'll totally agree that it is torture.....I wanted to go so bad
when it was sixty in January.....got to Stow at one and couldn't
go out 'til three. So I went down the road and hit all the balls
I had into the woods.

Yeh, outa his shoes alright...as good as he is I bet within
the next 5 years he'll learn, as Davis Love III has, that the control
of all that power will get him more wins...in fact he seems to me
to be a better course manager than Norman who still hasn't fulfilled
his potential

538.5 | The guy is out-of control!!! Winning that is!!! | SA1794::WELLSPEAK | He's old...and his skin is cold... | Thu Mar 02 1989 12:49 | 10 |
| If Davis Love III has learned to control all that raw power,
how come I haven't seen him finish in the top 5 of any tournament
this year, never mind win 2 of them? I think Calcaveccia has great
control over his power game. He seems to know when to power the
shot, and when to finess the shot, not to mention he's a very good
putter. He has all the tools to well surpass Curtis Stranges PGA
record for earnings in a season. And with his youth, he should
become the tours leading career money winner within the next 5 to
7 years.

| re: .5
Note I said Love had learned to control his power I did not
say he knew how to manage the course..there is a BIG DIFFERENCE
Every guy out there can hit a ball and make the numbers...the
ones that excell are the ones that KNOW HOW TO MANAGE THE GAME
AROUND A COURSE ...that's is the reason Hogan and Nicklaus were
great and Nicklaus even says that in one of his books..!!

| Watch Mark fade over the next two years, al la Corey Pavin and others
with unusual swings. He'll continue to win during this time, but
that swing will not endure.

re. .8 That's what they all said about Arnold Palmer. ;^)
Calkacchevechhia..er..ah...oh forget it, may have a "quick"
swing, but it isn't unusual. He definitely needs to change
his name though!
