502.0. "places to buy clubs?" by WARDER::CADMAN () Wed Jan 18 1989 08:15

    Hi,

        As a new user to Vax notes I was interested to see that people
    were able to give information on places to buy golf clubs etc.
    I will be making a trip over the pond on the 17th Feb into Miami
    staying in the US for three weeks. While I am there Iwould like
    to purchase a set of Ping irons could anybody tell me where to go
    and a rough cost....

    Regards,

    Chris C.

    I am in New Hampshire and know of a couple of places up here that
    stock them. They range in price from $415 to $500.

    I know that Kurt's Golf Shop in Framingham MA has a large selction
    of Ping clubs in all colors, shafts, and weights. They will run
    you aroung $40 a club.

    Aren't Nashua and Framingham a little far from Miami, FL?

502.4"EDWIN WATTS IS IN FLORIDA"OURVAX::GLASSThu Jan 19 1989 14:4113
    Hi,
    There is hardly any better place than Edwin Watts' to buy clubs
    while you are in Florida. There address and telephone number will
    be listed in any issue of either Golf Digest or Golf magazines.

    By the way, also look at the new Hogan EDGE iron before you go off
    and purchase the PING iron. Without a doubt, there are no better
    clubs made than these two(2) and are easily fittable to any
    style/size/swing you may have. The US pro bags are heavily populated
    by PING's and HOGAN's for the right resaons!

    Good shopping.

    Speaking of Hogans.... I noticed that Tom Kite was wearing a
    Hogan visor at the Hope Desert Classic. Is he currently playing
    Hogan clubs?
502.6wilson out - hogan inMAMIE::GORDONTue Mar 21 1989 11:576
    it seems that Kite's contract with Wilson ran out and Hogan must
    have offered him more money cause he now play's/advertises HOGAN...

    of course winning helps sales too....bet a lot of hogans will be
    sold now...

502.7Good close-ups...MSEE::KELLEYCustom clubs/club repairTue Mar 21 1989 12:109

    I don't remember ever seeing so many close-ups of the clubs
    as were shown during the TPC. I also saw that Kite was playing
    Hogans, I noticed somebodyelse also playing Hogans, Beck playing
    Staffs, Lietzke playing Tommy Armour, etc... I haved tried to
    catch what clubs players use during other tourney coverage, but
    found it very difficult, not so during the TPC...!

    The other thing I noticed at TPC was the black titlest balls.

    In the tournaments I've seen this year I only noticed 1 ping iron
    and that was a wedge.

 	I also noticed several MAXFLI balls being used.

    	Ping... Kevin, you must not have watched the tourneys that Calcavecchia
    	played in...! With his copper-beryllium Pings...

502.10I'll bet they're custom made, thoughCSDPIE::GRYGLIKWhen's our tee time?Tue Mar 21 1989 13:016
    Bruce Lietzke was using Ping look-alike irons. I think they were
    845s or 645s. I noticed on Thursday that Tom Watson was using some
    flavor of RAM clubs, then on the weekend he did a few commercials
    for RAM. I also noticed that Tom Kite was using the quite common
    green Victory grips.

502.11They aren't right off the rack...!MSEE::KELLEYCustom clubs/club repairTue Mar 21 1989 14:209

    As I mentioned earlier Lietzke was using Tommy Armour's (Tommy
    Armour 845s). Tom Watson has been using and promoting Ram for
    years...

    Mike, the clubs that you mentioned seeing Kite using with the
    Victory grips, were they his woods or irons or both?

    Gene
502.12Does he still use wooden clubs, too?CSDPIE::GRYGLIKWhen's our tee time?Wed Mar 22 1989 07:395
    Gene, if I recall correctly, it was at least his irons. I don't
    recall noticing the grips on any of his woods.

    Gene,

    	I haven't watched much golf this year (Too busy with other
    things.) that's why I didn't notice I guess.  I did notice Kite's
    grips, they were the green victory on both woods and irons. He
    was not the only one, but the names escape me. I did notice that
    Kite uses woods and not metals though.

    Kevin,

    I noticed other players using the Victory grips and one or two
    of them with cord. I also noticed a fair mix of metal woods and
    wood/woods...

    I remember reading an article back in January in a local paper
    that Couples had switched from Pings to Tommy Armour, I don't
    know if it is the same model as what Bruce Lietzke is using or
    not. Does anybody know any more about this...?

502.15Colorado/Dallas buying placesMETSYS::GAMIOversized golf nutFri Oct 15 1993 09:2914
    Can someone please give me some advice:

    I will be visiting both Colorado springs and Dallas and I wish to
    purchase some new golf equipment while i'm out there including, Irons,
    woods, bags, shoes, etc. (much cheaper out there !).

    Can someone recommend the best places for buying equipment.

    Specifically, i'm think of Wilson Staff Progressive + TM or Big Bertha
    drivers.

    Thanks,
