460.1 | My pick... | MSEE::KELLEY | got to get the short game togther | Thu Dec 01 1988 08:52 | 9 |

I will start it off. I would get a set of Callaway - Bobby Jones
Commemorative irons. The are truely a beautiful set of clubs
with the hickory over metal shafts. I don't know how they play
and with a price tag of $1000+ I don't think I will find out.
As far as woods go, there aren't any ones in particular that
I would like to try...

| I would definitely get a set of the "game improvement" clubs.
I don't think I'd go gaga and get the graphite shaft clubs at a
much greater cost, but certainly would step up from my Wilson
1200LT's. December Golf Digest has the new equipment for 89 article
and reviews new (and old) sets. I've never heard of half the
manufacturers. Their clubs may be superior, but I'd never know it.
But anyways, I'd probably get a set of Titleist DTR irons, and
MacGregor's Muirfield 20th metal drivers with the 2 closed face
low trajectory options. This would run about $500. Good, but not
extravagent.

460.3 | For Play and Looks | ODIXIE::WESTCL | Gator Golfer | Thu Dec 01 1988 10:02 | 24 |
| Great question!!
Putter - absolutely no question. It would have to be a hand made
putter from Truett P. Mills, Tuscaloosa, Ala. He designed the models
that Spaulding mass produces as its TPM putter. They are the black
heads with a slight flange and with crossing dots at the sweet spot
on the face. Truett hand makes these putters on a limited basis,
and they are things of beuty. He begins with three pieces of gun
metal. They are then welded, ground, polished, and blued to become
a finished product. Price varies from $300 up. I was fortunate
enough to win one a few years ago.
Irons- For looks, the Tommy Armour chrome plated forged clubs.
For play, Ping Eye 2, either stainless or beryllium.
Woods- For looks, Cleveland Classics, persimmon.
For play, Taylor Made Metal with titanium shaft.
Bag- For looks, Ping pro-style white with black trim.
For carrying--anyone got a good idea?
You gotta look the part.

| I'd go to a pro/clubmaker, have him fix up my swing and make clubs
to match now plus later when I get the right swing working.
See you on tour,
Alan

| Although I have pretty good clubs now, I still would get a set of
berillium Pings just for those times when I go in the tank. They
have to be the easiest, most anti-s---k clubs I've ever played.
(If they just weren't offset I'd have 'em now!)

| I am happy with my Altrons, but after I got a Yamaha X-214 driver
with boron shaft and carbon composite head, and seeing good results,
I get to wonder what it will be to have ALL the clubs made like that,
and then I look at the YONEX clubs (over $1000 just for the "irons")
and I wonder if I will get FANTASTIC improvements that will justify
that big expense!!!! I doubt it.
I think I'll settle for the 3 and 5 wood Yamaha's to match my driver.

Well I'm just sayin!
I like'm a lot. They really are true. I get a good hit from them.

460.10 | A Christmas Golf List | FIRST3::STACK | | Wed Dec 07 1988 09:24 | 57 |
|
Well the author said this was supposed to be a wish list. So...
Santa: So jeff have you been a good boy all year ?
Jeff: Yes Santa. I ate all my vegetables and practiced my short
game whenever I got a chance.
Santa: Now that's a good little golfer!! Well seeing that you
have been so good all year what would you like for
Christmas?
Jeff: Well Santa to start off I'd like a brand new pair of
Footjoy leather golf shoes as well as a pair of the
Softjoys weatherproof shoes and a pair of Nikes.
I'd also like a set of the Mizuno Black Turbo woods
and a Tommy Armour beryllium-head graphite shaft
driver.
Seeing that I also did everything my mommy told me to
I also want a set of Slotline Inertial irons, a set
of Titleist Tour Model irons and a set of the Yonex
Carbonnex irons. I'd also like to have my original
Tommy Armour M85 irons rechromed, reshafted and
regripped with leather grips.
The Wilson Tour Model putter and the Tiger Shark Great
White putter would also be nice gifts. Maybe even
the Zebra Ray Floyd model wouldn't be too much to ask
for either.
For my stocking I'd like a few dozen each of the Titleist
Pro Trajectory, Low Trajectory, Maxfli DDH and Spalding
Top Flite Xls. Also, how about a couple of rain suits
and winter suits just to be safe.
Santa: Well, that sure is quite a list. I'll have to get my
elves working overtime on this list.
Jeff: Thank you Santa. And if it's not too much I'd like to
wish that everyone could have more time to play golf
and have that one great round every-other weekend. And
that it's nice out every time we want to play a round.
And as Santa's sleigh pulled away from the ground,
I heard him exclaim,
Merry golfing to all,
And to all a good round!

460.11 | wish upon a golf ball???? | TONTO::GORDON | | Wed Dec 14 1988 12:45 | 22 |
| re: .0
Well if money was no object...I'd mix and match.....
I'd make my 2-4 irons those game improvement clubs like
the new hogan edge or pings. Reason is because the long
irons are the hardest to hit correctly so I'd take all the
help I could get by making my 2,3,4 the easiest to hit I could
buy.
Next I'd keep my hogan radials w-5 that I now have but have
graphit or titaniam stiff shafts installed in them.
Graphite or titia. because there lighter = more clubhead speed
and stiff because with these clubs I need the accuracy
I think I'd try experimenting with more flexable shafts in
the woods I have(hogan series 56 metal) and I try and find
a old Macgregor Tourney driver for those days when I use the
soft titlest balls.
Boy what a wish list...if only....!!!!
