399.0. "Worcester CC members!!!" by CSG001::BRAULT () Tue Sep 20 1988 15:02

I stopped by the Worcester CC the other day seeking information
on memberships. I was told that I would need to speak to an existing
    member for information.

I would like to speak to someone about the details of becoming a
memeber. I live in western Worcester and have been looking for sometime
for a private club. Public Golf requires full day committments inorder
to get in a round. I have checked Pleasent Valley and Mount Pleasent,
WCC is the only one I do not have info. on.

I would also like to get an idea of the Digital Contingent at these
private clubs, if anyone would like to give me a hand, please???

399.1a little expensive for meVINO::RASPUZZIMichael RaspuzziTue Sep 20 1988 17:1712
Be prepared for big bucks. A friend of mine is a member there and
his yearly fee is about $2500. He also must spend at least $50 on
food per month there. Then there's the initiation fee...

I would guess that WCC is like any other private club. You need
to be introduced by a member and then your name has to sit on the
bulletin board for a month to make sure that there are no objections
to you joining. So, you find a member, he submits you as a candidate,
someone seconds that motion, and poof, in 30 days you should be
    in.

BTW, I almost forgot. I think my friend mentioned something like
the yearly fee was $2500 if you are under 32 years old. If you are
over 32, then it costs something like $3500.

I'll try to help you out, but remember that my comments may seem
    somewhat editorialized.
First of all, you're not going to get any help going this (the Notes
file) route, because I haven't met anyone in DEC who belongs to
anyplace good. If they do, they're not going to jump in and sponsor
someone they don't know and risk possible embarrassment in the event
that the new member turns out to be a bad fit at their club.
Second, the dining room minimum at Worcester is probably closer
to $100 per month, and may not include booze. It may also be in
    effect year round.
Third, I'm certain the initiation is at least $5k.
Fourth, you'll probably need at least three sponsors, and if the
membership is closed (which it probably is), you're looking at a
2-3 year wait. Incidentally, ,after your name is posted on the board,
it is brought up at a meeting, and if someone then vetoes you, you're
history. This, by the way, is how many private clubs work.
If you're still interested, inquire about becoming a social member
first. Their are scaled down fees attendant to that which will apply
towards your golf membership, and you do get some golf privileges.
The "blood test" I described above still applies, however.
I've been to Worcester many times, and to a lot of better places
as well, but in the final analysis they are all similar when it
comes to accepting new members. by the way, if I were going to join
a club in this area, I'd look at Oak Hill in Fitchburg, and go the
Social member route. Great course, great people, great Pro and good
    facilities.

    Hope this helps,

    Jack.

    Re .3:

The dining room fee minimum is $50 per month according to my friend.
However, as you guessed, this is $50 per month for 12 months.

As I mentioned before, he pays $2500 per year as a membership fee
only because he is under 32 years old. After 32, he will pay $3500.
These are direct price quotes from him.
