A friend of mine is going to be visiting from Long Island this September. We would like to find a weekend package that is within 3 hours driving time between Boston and New York City. Does anyone know of a good place that offers weekend packages in the western part of Mass. or Rhode Island or maybe on or close to the NY/VT border? Thanks in advance!! Michele

You might try the Cranwell Resort and Hotel in Lenox Mass which is about 5-10 miles from the Mass Pike just south of Pittsfield (out in the Berkshires). The grounds are being converted from a private school to condos/resort, etc. Surrounding the whole complex is an 18 hole course which is very challenging. If you decide to go you might also try the Taconic GC is Williamstown. I'm sure they won't have a weekend package but the course is beautiful. It made Golf Digest best 100 courses several years ago. It's about a 30 min. ride from Cranwell. ls | |||||

Ah, Cranwell and Taconic 2 of my favorite from High School. Both are challenging courses. Taconic is a well groomed, well layed out course. I really like it. Cranwell was not in the best of shape the last time I played it (about 5 years ago). It is very challenging because of its postage stamp greens and 7 of 9 holes on the back side have woods on all 4 sides. If the grounds have been improved since I last played then this course is a good one. It has some real easy holes that you must score on because the tough holes are *tough*. If you can, play at Taconic. Mike |
