314.1 | HONEYMOON GOLF ?????? | GRANPA::KVENEZIO | | Fri Jul 01 1988 15:37 | 14 |
| While you are there you must play Castle Harbour. It is by far the
most scenic. Some holes are right on the ocean. There is also a course
near the airport that offers some great golf but you must have an
invitation to play. Some hotels have playing privileges. The name
escapes me at the moment. I would avoid The Belmont. The only course
I've ever played that gave you a scorecard and directional instructions
on the 1st tee. It said things like " hit over the house on your
tee shot. The green is behind the barn." The cart path actually
takes you through fields, pastures, and backyards. Strange layout.
It was more like a scavenger hunt than a round of golf. If you pick
up a copy of any of the Golf publications, you can usually find
many ads for Bermuda golf.

314.2 | Not necessarily the Belmont | MENSCH::STANZ | | Sat Jul 02 1988 22:03 | 12 |
| I feel I must reply to .1 on the Belmont.....My wife and I spent
10 days in Bermuda at the end of May, and found it to be wonderful.
We STAYED at the Belmont, and played there. Although we only played
three times ( too much to see and do on the island) it definitely
doen NOT fit the previous description! It is a well manicured, and
pretty course. I found it frustrating because there were many sidehill
lies, and the 18th was very unfair in this regard, but otherwise
it was great. Greens fees were $25, and they went to 12.50 after
4:00.
I don't know where .1 played, but it sure wasn't the Belmont!

314.3 | Try the Par 3 at Southampton Princess | WAV14::SNIDER | | Tue Jul 05 1988 13:12 | 11 |
| We went to Bermuda for our honeymoon too back in July of '76. But my
bride was of the non-golfing sort.
I did manage to get in a few hours at the course at the hotel, the
Southampton Princess. It's a par 3, 18 hole course that was quite
challenging. The course was designed by a well known architect but
can't recall the name. The layout is in front and to the left of
the hotel. Had a great time while my bride was getting her nails
done and having a massage.

314.4 | I just got back... | FSDEV1::CDOMENICO | | Tue Jul 05 1988 17:22 | 19 |
| I just got back from my honeymoon in Bermuda last Sunday. We played
golf 4 times. Once was at the Belmont which we did not enjoy.
The course was poorly laid out/marked and wasn't worth the price
($35/person green fee - we didn't get a reduced fee after 4:00). Another
time we played at Riddle (Riddel?) Bay which was awful. It cost
us $100 for 18 holes, cart and clubs. They also charge $10.50 for
3 balls!! The course was like straw due to the lack of rain. However,
we did play at a course called *Port Royal* which we really enjoyed.
They offered discount prices after 4 and the course was in good
condition even with the lack of rain. I believe it cost us $30 for 2
(9 holes and after 4) and a cart.
ENJOY!!!

314.5 | The Belmonts Back | GRANPA::KVENEZIO | | Tue Jul 05 1988 17:23 | 7 |
| Ref: .2 The Belmont
My visit was back in '82. I may have painted an unfair picture.
My wife and I also stayed at the Belmont. We found it a great hotel
but back in '82 the course was just as I described it. I willingly
defer to your review and look foward to playing it again next year
when we return.

I have played Mid Oceans several times and it and Port Royal are
two of the better layouts in Bermuda.
