Two courses that I like are both in Portsmouth. Portsmouth CC has a
couple of real nice holes that extend out into an inlet. Also,
Wentworth-by-the-Sea has a nice little course. Many of the holes run
along the ocean, and you get the feeling your in Scotland. Both
courses can get real windy on certain holes.

| Both of the courses mentioned are nice to play, but on a weekend
non-members can't get a tee time until after 11:30 am. And I believe
that Portsmouth doesn't take tte time for weekend non-members. Had
a tee time at Wentworth on Memorial Day and gor rained out, hope
to play PCC soon. I'll take PCC over Wentworth, FWIW.

| Try Sagamore Hampton, it's a public course with tee times.
Try East Kingston in Kingston, it's public. Follow 107 west from
Hampton.
Try Rockingham in Stratham on 108, it's public.
Try Exeter Country Club, it's public too.

| Has anyone out there played at Wentworth by the Sea in Portsmouth???
I am playing there tomorrow and would like to hear anything you
can tell me about the course, ie long, short, well mgroomed, small
greens etc. A description of the holes would be great. Any info
will be appreciated, I can use any help I can get before getting
on the course.
Thanks....Mike

| It stinks. Short, dull, not super shape (although the greens are
o.k. lots of crazy holes - blind, bad pictures etc. a couple of
good holes on the water, but that's it. I wouldn't play it again
for free.

Mike,
I won't disagree much with .5 although the layout is pretty tricky.
Back 9 has alot of placement shots, but is short. There are also two
holes that go out to an island that is mosquito infested. Made for very
hurried golf. Balls in those woods are not worth looking for. Have a
good day, anyway you hammer!!!!

| Thanks for the information, I just changed my plans to play there
and am now playing at Portsmouth CC instead. I've heard some good
things about that course so I'm hoping it lives up to its reputation.
Also have a tee time at FarCorners for Sunday. Any info on
these courses would be appreciated also.
Thanks again for the info, if theres one thing I hate its going
to a new course you are psyched up for and finding its a cow patch.
Especially at 30-40 bucks a whack!!!!

Mike,
Portsmouth is great. Of course the only time I've played there I shot
a 73 so that didn't hurt! Sneaky long but pretty straight forward. The
first par 3 ( 6 I believe ) if the wind is in your face hit more club
than you think. Probably an 8 iron for you!!!!! Nice track by the ocean
and alot of aerobatics from the planes overhead. Par 5 on the back 15??
you could probably cut the corner and have a 8 iron in. Just don't go
left or you're dead. Like I said before it's nice so have fun.
Far Corners is another nice lay out. Placement is the key. Not very
long but can eat you alive with a miss-placed driver, Keep it in the
bag as much as possible. You don't need it much. You will on 1,5,8,9,11
(aim just to the right of the birch tree, pop it, and you've got a 8
iron to the green, all down hill) 13,18. Toughest par 3 I think I've
played in number 7. If the tees are back and a little wind in the face
it's almost a lay up and go for bogey. Keep it straight but no need to
hit those 300 yd. rockets we all hate you for. Once again, have fun!!!

| Far Corners is great, and from the back is plenty long enough (
like the previous note, I had 72 there once, so i remember it well).
#2 plays longer than the yardage, # 3 is an iron off the tee and
#4 (par 3) plays long too. #5 is 445 uphill and left, but if you
hit a long draw it'll help (the "good" day I played there i hit
9 iron in for a birdie). #6 is an iron off the tee, and #7 is a
GREAT (!!) par three - U.S. Open calibre. #8 plays longer into the
green, and # 9 is a reachable par 5. The back 9 is pretty good too,
16 is a fairway wood off the tee, and 18 is sneaky long.
Also in that area is Crystal Springs - real good!!

72 at Far Corners is a great score Jack. Nice going! For those
that have played it, you know it is not an easy layout.

| Mike,
How was Portsmouth? I had a tee at Wentworth for Sunday, but
had to cancel and from the looks of the last few entries, I saved
myself $35. How much is PCC going for on weekends, now? Thanks.

Keith, POrtsmouth as a nice course but I wasn't all that impressed
with it on the whole. Most holes are pretty straightforward and
don't require a lot of thought. Got a little boring. Play was
very slow (5.5 hours for a 2-some) due to the average age on the
course being around 75!!! The wind was really up on Saturday when
we played which really made things tough. A couple par 4's into
the wind I hit driver, 3-wood to the green when it should have played
driver 7 or 8 iron!! Really no trouble to get into, things are
pretty open and easy. All in all a decent day of golf, shot 76
which wasn't too bad considering the wind.
Sunday was a real treat at Far Corners, I really enjoyed that course
and am definitely going back very soon. A great layout that really
requires some thinking before hitting your shot. You just dont
walk up to the tee and grab your driver. Excellent shape and a
great variety of holes. Great views and friendly people. Played
from the whites and shot 74, went back out from the blues and shot
77, the course can really change from the blues.
As for cost, PCC was38.50 with a cart and Far Corners was 27.00
with a cart. For my money Far Corners is the place to be.
Have fun and let us know how you make out....Mike

| I live up on the coast and have played both courses.
Portsmouth is a long course, Wentworth is short and tight.
Have always had a great time on both. There are a lot of
good courses on the coast.
