Hi Everyone,
I'm basically a new beginner and want to improve my game. I've
been playing for about two years and want to become a "real" golfer.
I felt that it was time to go out and buy a set that I can call my
own, so I went to numerous golf equipped stores. I finally bought
a set of Spalding "Pro Flites" The complete set came with 1-3-5
metal woods and 3-9+pw for irons. I heard that the metal woods would
be to my advantage?? I would like to improve my game. I have a very
bad slice and was wondering if anyone of you experts could give
me some advice and what do you think of the clubs I purchased??
Oh yes, on the metal woods there is a degree number on each of the
woods? Does anyone know what that stands for?
I appreciate any advice anyone can bestow upon me....
Regards,
Jim

Jim,
The degree number on your woods is the degree of loft each wood
has, the driver being the lowest and 5 wood being the highest.
The 3 wood and 5 wood are considered fairway woods and have a higher
loft to enable you to get the ball up off the ground easier.
As far as your slice goes, the best advice is to take a couple of
lessons from a pro..someone that can tell what is causing the problem.
My first advice would be to check your grip, that is what was causing
alot of problems for me.
Good Luck.....mike

I played golf for 6 months until I got aggravated enough to take
some lessons. I took a 5 lesson course from a driving range pro
(the old Fairway Sportsworld in Natick) which included lessons in
chipping, putting, and *strategy*. I broke 100 before the year
was over, and broke 90 the next year. Lessons are the only way
to go for a beginner.
Just be sure to LISTEN, and do what the pro asks, even though it
will "feel funny".
