My wife and I are considering a vacation to the San Fransico / Montery area the week of Memorial day. I know I can play Pebble Beach and Spy Glass. What I am really wondering is does any one know anyone that could get me on Cypress Point. (You know the old friend of a friend.) I figured with our world wide network & thousands of employees maybe someone out there could help. (I am also cross posting this to the San Fransico notes file.) Cypress Point would also fulfill one of my life long dreams. Doesn't every golfer want to stand at the 16th hole & try to hit across that chasm? Larry Warfield DTN: 223-8721

I played Pebble and Spyglass last April. From what I
understand, if you stay at Pebble Beach Hotel and generously
grease the palms in the proshop, you may get on. That's
    	what I heard.

I'd certainly try to play that brand new Tom Watson
    	course (the name escapes me).

Be prepared to be totally disappointed in Pebble until
the par 5 sixth (which is just ok). The 7th is that
little wedge par 3. Eight, nine and ten will knock
your socks off. Especially Eight. By far the best
hole on the course. However, literally half the course
    	is mediocre at best.

My favorite at Spyglass was the fourth. Fabulous approach
shot into a very narrow green. Like playing golf on the
dunes. Spyglass's rough is ridiculous. If you are two
feet in the rough just off the green, you either leave it
in the rough or the ball shoots out like a rocket. I missed
several greens from just off. The ultimate "flyer".
By the way, green fees at Pebble were $125 with mandatory
cart. $75 to walk Spyglass (which was easy). No long walks
    	from greens to tees, etc...

"Locals" advise you to try Poppy Hills. It's $100 w/cart
and we wished we played Spyglass twice.

| RE: New Watson course.

I think the name of that course is Spanish Bay. I know it's a new
course on the Penninsula. Walked part of it. A links-type course.

That's it!! Spanish Bay. Supposedly the only "true" links
    type course in the country.

    Tom Watson's first design.

| Ok just plain ignorance here, what is a "Links" type course? Is
it a reference to that Links course in the UK. Oh you know, the
whats its name course, Lundin Links course or something (please no
rotten eggs if I've missed spelled it ok ggeeeeessssssss 8^). Yea
that should be ignorance here AGAIN! ha ha
