I agree.. I played my first round of golf there. The thing I have
trouble with is 7200? Do really mean that or is it going to 6200
yds. I don't remember it very well, but I can't believe that 'the
rock' had that much land around it.

Ya, I might have thought it was a typo also, but 7200 yds. is
it. I don't know exactly how far back into the woods the layout
goes, but I do know there is a lot of woods out there and LOTS
of huge rocks, one has a large crack in it that we used to squeeze
through as kids (table rock, there is a rock on the top that
resembles a table).

This change will make Maplewood a bit more inviting for some
of us area golfers. I enjoy playing this course, but get irked
because every time I go there it's the same old thing, wait,
hole after hole. I played there last week and it took me almost
5 hours to play 18 holes. And this was during the week. They have
done a few things to try and speed up play. They have made the
first and second holes, the 8th and 9th. The 1st tee is now the
3rd hole, so now you have 4 par four's in a row to help spread out
play, instead of the old 1st and 2nd hole which were a short par
4, and then the par 3.

Gene,
Yes they did change the cards. Also there is a house across
the street that the owners bought. The guy I was playing with
there told me that the owner of the house had just spent a ton
on remodeling. Seem's he got a pretty penny for the house.
I guess you could say they made him an offer he couldn't
refuse.

RE: .7
Hi Randy,
I hope you don't mind my reposting your registry note here... I
wanted to comment on it, but didn't want to clutter the registry
note with things other than registry notes...
First off, congrats on a fine round of "32". Now, you say that
you don't consider Maplewood a REAL course... I grant you that
it is a short course, at only 2,685 and I assume that that is
why you are saying that it is not a REAL course, right? You still
have to play some good golf to shoot a 32 there and I wouldn't
put that score down... Even if you consider that the course par
of 35 should be a 34, since the 8th hole (used to be the first)
is a par 4 at 230 yards, you still had a great round...
Enjoy it now, it is going to get LONGER...

Maplewood is on the shortside, even for a par 35 course, but then again,
you do have to be more acurate there then at a wide open course
such as GrandView. I have a friend who can consistantly score better
at Grandview then at Maplewood. He hits a very long tee shot, but
doesn't always know where its going. ;-) 32 is still something
that I would brag about. BTW the course record there was 28 last
I knew.

thanks for the support !!
I will admit I was unconscious that day ! The reason for my comment
is the short holes and small greens. When I played it the 8th was
the first. I used a 3 iron, drove the green and 2 putted for bird,
I didn't realize it ! I thought it was a long par 3 ! The next hole
is a chip shot par 3, another bird ! The next hole which is now
the 1st is also drivable under dry conditions, no wind needed!
same for the next hole, 90 degree dog-leg. The only holes I
liked were 8 and 9 which are now 6 and 7 I think. another bird
on the par 5 !
Now the part that hurts, last fall I took my parents there since
I had that courses number and I need all the help I can get to
beat my dad(even at age 72 he always beats me ! ugh !!!) I
think I psyche myself out ! well the course was in terrible shape,
the 2nd hole was now a par 3, and the greens were lightning fast
needless to say I shot like a 45, my dad shot a 42 and my mom even
broke 50 with an 8 on the par 5 !

RE: .10
The third (now the first hole) driveable...!!!! You must be able
to keep up with the real big boys (it is 350 yards)...! The 4th
now the second, I have seen driver several times, but it still
takes a real good shot over the trees and possibly a good kick
on the slope to do it (3,4, or 5 wood)...

244.12 | 350 ? nooo problem ! | FRAGLE::STUART | tee many martoonies | Thu May 18 1989 09:53 | 11 |

I'll take your word that it's 350. I've only played there
3 times but it doesn't look 350. I also agree to drive the
2nd you have to go over the trees and get a good kick off
the slope. I know that with a decent roll I can get 300
off a driver. Last night I caught one into a stiff breeze
and slightly uphill, paced it off at 255yds .. and I have
witnesses !
