184.0. "Score Cards" by MSEE::POULSEN () Wed Jan 06 1988 15:31

I started collecting score cards from courses I HAVE PLAYED a few years
ago. Does anyone else do this? I don't have cards for all the courses I've
played. I'll list the ones I'm missing separately. Most of the courses I have
cards for are local (Ma. & NH.) I played the Four Seasons CC in Wrens Georgia
last year when I went to see the Masters.

If anyone plans on playing any of these courses and wants some info on them
just send me some mail.

    Don,

I drive down Route 13 all the time and go by Monoosnock CC and was
wondering what it was like, also Grand View (where in Leominster
is it). I use to collect cards but for some reason got bored with
it on decided one day I had too much junk in my house. Well any
    way it was fun.

Peter,

Monoosnock CC is a public/private club. I believe its open to the public
Mon. - Thur. up until 4:00. On Fri. its closed at 1:00. Weekend times
are all private (for members). Its a 9 hole course. Not a bad course overall.

	HOLE	PAR	YARDAGE
	----	---	-------
1 5 450	Brooks come into play on drive and 2nd shot.
2 4 387	Straight but OB on right.
	 3 3 214	Long par 3.
4 4 379	Uphill dogleg left blind shot to green.
	 5 4 335	Sharp dogleg left.
	 6 5 515	Basic par 5.
7 4 378	Brook comes into play on drive.
	 8 3 158	Downhill par 3. don't be short.
	 9 3 235	Another long par 3.
		---	-----
		35	3051

Grand View:

Grand View is a public 18 hole course 6563 yard par 72. Its hilly and
you have to watch out for rocks. I thought I had a great lie in the middle
of the fairway, took a divot and hit a rock, ding. I'll still go and play it
but I watch out for that. Doesn't get that much play. I've gone there on a
Saturday at 9:00 and went right out.

I usually go Rt 2 west and take the road that goes in back of Searstown.
I think that is Mechanic Street? Stay on Mechanic St. till it meets Rt. 12.
Take a left and go straight through the lights (Rt. 12 goes to the left).
Stay on that road for 3 or 4 miles and then take a right on Wachusett ST.
There is a little brick building on the corner of Wachusett st. I think
it a pump or lift station. The course will be a couple miles up the
road. They list three different numbers on their card: 537-0614, 537-2397
and 534-9685.

Good Luck
Don

Of your top ten I have played two: Bretwood and Woodstock. I
think both are excellent courses especially since they are public!
I played Bretwood for the first time this year and wound up
going back two more times and it is a 70 mile ride each way,
great course. Woodstock is a beautiful course very well maintained
(the people are a little on the snobie side though) lots of
trout in the stream/river that runs through the entire course.

I played Woodstock this past Nov.. The course closes on Nov 1 so
no one was there, but the flags were still in but no tees were there.
It was the first time I was on the course, no one was playing but
the greens keeper said we could play. I aced the second hole, it
was funny because I did not know the yardage, it was very foggy
so my wife and I didn't really see the shot, we heard it hit the
flag (it flew in on the fly). Anyway it was my first hole in one
but it is not offical. The second day we went back and I birdied
the hole. I wish I could take that hole with me every I go.

I'll send you a Pine Meadows card if I can find a blank - unfortu-
nately, the course was sold to developers and will not re-open
next season...it was my "home" course, and (as they say) a "sporty
little layout." The 8th was a particular nemesis/favorite, with
its nastily sloping green -- I've seen putts slide right off the
    front edge!

Where in Fitchburg is Oak Hill? Where is Dixvill Notch NH? Did
you enjoy Killington, I thought it was a very tough course, don't
go into the woods (or should I say jungle), did you play #12 from
the back tees? The hole is impossible from there.

    	RE: .9

If I remember correctly (it's been a LONG time) Oak Hill road
is an exit on Rt. 2 going west. The C.C. is just a mile or so
off the highway (BTW it's private). Dixville Notch is about
20 miles from the Canadian border. The Balsams is a beautiful
resort up there; golf, tennis, swimming, fishing, hiking, game
room, boating, etc.... Killington was a TOUGH course, but I
really enjoyed it. Let's see, #12... 10 is down hill and dogleg
left, 11 is DOWN hill par 5, if this is correct so far then
we must have played 12 from the front tees, just in front of
some trees, there is a brook to play over and the fairway slopes
to the right (I drove that hole!)... I don't recall seeing the
back tees. Are we talking about the same hole...?

Yes that is the right hole. They moved the white tee's to the high
handicaper's tee because the hole was way too hard. The back tee's
are about 220 yards back from where you played it. It takes an
well placed shot off the tee (with a driver) just to have a second
shot. If you hit to long you go into the brook, too short and you
don't have a shot. Do you know if Oak Hill allows non-members?

    	Peter,

I can see where the hole would be tough the way you played it..
Oak Hill does not allow non-members to play (that is of course
unless you are a guest of a member)...
