Arnold Palmer, golf legend and one-man conglomerate, was "interviewed" (hardly the right word) Wednesday morning on the Today show ("adulated" comes closer to Bryant Gumbel's session with him). Seems Arnie has some new golf goodies coming to market: two videos and a book, all under the general title "How To Play Great Golf." It didn't take too broad a hint to get the message across to my wife as to what I'd like for my next birthday! However, before plunking down the big buckos, it might be nice to preview the product. Does anyone care to recommend any of the other videos on the market, and have a suggestion as to where they might be found on a rental basis? It seems reasonable that the Palmer tapes would also be available in that case. Wondering what became of my beautifully grooved swing, I await your replies... Frank

Frank, I have a copy of Jack Nicklaus' "Golf- My Way", and find it to be pretty good. I watch it on occasion when my game has gone to hell in a handbasket. It's about 2-1/2 hrs long, so I've found I can't just sit and watch the whole thing....sensory overload... too much to try and absorb. I just fast fwd. to the section I want to concentrate on (grip, iron play, putting, etc.) I wish I had a grooved swing to begin with....I have to work so hard at setting up and making sure everything is right- I guess I would be called a "deliberate" player. I try hard not to be slow, but if I don't take extra care, I'm all over the place. The Nicklaus tape is available at the video stores I go to. I rented it a couple of times before I got it for myself. Keep swingin' :-) |
