| Hi Nancy,
There is a teaching professional in Northboro at Juniper Hills.
Her name is Monique Darling. She is a very good teacher for people
who are just beginning golf. She is also pretty good with people
who are trying to hone their skills because she is very observant.
I am not sure of lesson prices. You would have to call Juniper
Hills and ask to talk to her.

| Nancy,
You could try Jim Bombard at Pleasant Valley Country Club
in Sutton. I have taken a number of lessons from him over the last
two years and feel that my game as improved markedly.
A half hour lesson is $20. Pleasant Valley is about 12 miles south
of Worcester on Route 146. It's real easy to find.

116.4 | Adult Golf Lessons | NOMADS::ROUILLE | | Mon Aug 10 1987 19:23 | 20 |
| This appeared last week in the Hudson Daily News:
The Hudson Division of Recreation is now accepting registration
for adult golf lessons. The instructions will be held at the Stow
Country Club on Friday Evenings at 6 p.m. for six weeks beginning
August 21, 1987. The cost of this program is $35 per person. All
registration must be done at the recreation office, 155 Apsley St.
Hudson, Mass. for further information call 562-3448.
I called them and the first class is filled up. They are trying
to get another class for Fridays at 5:00. If they get 10 people
then they will hold the class. Iknow that myself and one other person
have signed up for the 5:00 class. You don't have to be a Hudson
resident to sign up.
Dave R (who played for the first time last Friday and shot 31 over
par for 9 holes - but it was fun!)

| The guy I'd recommend is Dave Heuser, who teaches at Wayland Monday
through Thursday, and at Stow on Friday. He also teaches at his
home in Ashland, indoors, during the winter. He charges 20/40 per
half-hour/hour, for private lessons; and will take couples at 30/60
per half-hour/hour. The fact that he cured my nearly terminal case
of shankitis in less than 15 minutes testifies to his teaching ability!
He has also straightened out an alignment problem, given me a cure
for hitting behind the ball, and taught me the four types of pitch
shots, in two hours' worth of lessons. I plan to see him a couple
more times this winter, before I head out to Phoenix for a couple
of weeks in January.

Wow...it has been 6-1/2 years since the last entry in this note...hope
someone reads it.
I just began golfing. Golfed for the first time at Brigatine in
Atlantic City 2-1/2 weeks ago...got a 138...y'all can stop laughing
now.
I work in Maynard and live in Leominster. A friend took lessons last
year at Acton-Boxboro Regional High School. It was part of their Adult
Education classes. They are offering the same thing this year (for a
very good price), but it doesn't start the end of June. Does anyone
out there know if there is another school offering the same sort of
thing or where I can find out where to inquire??
Thanks!

Raquel,
I would also look into any local driving ranges or public courses
in your area. Many have beginner group lessons on weeknights and/or
Sat. mornings for a reasonable price. Another possibility would
be to get a group of friends or co-workers to take lessons together,
a pro will usually offer a discount when he/she doesn't have to
do the work putting a group together.
Sorry I can't make any personal recommendations but So. NH would be
a little far to drive to take lessons.
I hope this helps.

Raquel,
They offer lessons at the new Lancaster Golf Center on Machanic St.
in Lancaster right near Leominster. I've only been there once so far
but there is a nice driving range, putting green and sand trap so I
would suspect they could offer lessons in all facets of the game.
And if the golf doesn't work out there is always the batting cages !

| Hi Raquel,
At the Stow Acres driving range you can get a 10 minute lesson for
$10. Ask him to show you the fundamentals (grip, address, aim, basic
swing moves)!
Hope this helps,

I am a beginner at this game, I 've only played twice. I don't even
know what my score was (I didn't bother to ask, I was just having fun)
I decided that I like the game so I would take a few lessons to learn
the right way to play. I signed up for the lessons at Indian Medows
(they were mentioned a few replies ago, but I didn't go thru DEC).
Since the instructors name is mentioned in here a few times I thought
I would add my comments on the guy. (Dick Naas) I would NEVER take
lessons from him again. He may know the game of golf but his attitude
was very cocky and arrogant. I don't know if he is always like this but
the class I ended up in was all women except myself, and he really
thought he was something. In the 5 weeks I spent at lessons not one
time did he talk to me or even acknowledge my presence. The only reason
I learned anything was because his teaching assistant would check on me
once or twice during our practice time.
One day he was busy with something else and sent someone else to teach
the class and then one other time (the following week) he cancelled
class for no apparent reason. He did give the lesson the following
week But because of my vacation I missed it. When I called to find
out about the make up (He held make up lessons the following week of
each lesson ) he told me there wasn't going to be one but that he would
give me a private lesson for $35.00. This was suppose to be the lesson
we learned to use the drivers, but he mentioned that we wouldn't really
be able to drive the ball because Indian Medows dosen't really have a
driving range (?) The only reason he even offered the private lesson
was because I gave him a hard time about not showing up for the one
class and cancelling the other one. After I got off the phone with the
guy I decided that I really didn't want to spend an hour with a cocky,
arrogent, SOB, that wasn't really thrilled to give me a lesson on using
a driver but where we really couldn't hit the ball anyway, so I never
set the lesson up with the guy. Now like I said at the beginning,
I am only a beginner so I really can't compare this guy to any other
golf pros but, I'll tell you, if this is any indication of how other golf
pros work (I doubt it is) I'll be reading a lot more books on how to
play the game.
Just my $.02 worth,
Jim

| they are "teaching professionals" NOT golf pro's....
anyone can call themself a "teaching professional" as it
is not regulated by anyone....
go see a golf professional who is a PGA certified teacher,
though this doesn't guarantee anything your chances may be better...

| Sounds like this guy is a jerk. I've taken one formal lesson and
been critiqued by a few pros. The lesson I took was in DisneyWorld
and it was a 1-1 lesson with a woman pro. She was excellent, and I
really learned a lot from her.
And my best friend's brother is an assistant golf pro. He's not as
good as the woman was, but he's very gracious and patient.
Drop this guy, and try someone else.
