| I have not gone on a winter golf vacation yet but am thinking
about it this year. Febuary or possibly early March. Myrtle Beach
seems to be the most popular and economical of all listed. If you're
looking for info on winter golf vacations, pick up a copy of one
of the recent editions of Golf Digest. There is a lot of plans
available to all sorts of budgets, some starting as low as $28.00
a day that includes hotel and 18-hole green fees and breakfast.
Other plans, have electric carts and dinner included for a higher
price.

| You're not gonna believe this, but I usually go to Czechoslovakia (sp?) in
spring! There is a place there called Marienbad, which before WW2 used to be
a health spa mainly frequented by the upper echelons of European nobility.
When (let's try again) Czechoslovakia slipped behind the Iron curtain after
the War, the place was forgotten. But the golf course and the spa has been
there all the time, and has now since a couple of years been open to people
from Western Europe.
The golf course, which has been there for more than 50 years, is beautiful
an extremely well manicured. It is set among gently rolling wooded hills,
and presents a really good test of one's ability.
The rest of the facility is also worth mentioning. The place still caters to
the more influential Czechs - which is a guarantee for excellent service and
food. Since one brings Western hard currency, you can have a really great
time for almost nothing. The only thing one has to remember is to bring
lots of golf balls - they arer, if available at all, horribly expensive.
If I can, I'll probably go there in April next year.

Why not come to sunny Australia? We get to play golf 12 months
of the year down here. None of that funny white cold stuff down
under. In fact you can join a golf club (Country Club to you) for
around A$500 (approx US$325) and play golf every day of the year
with NO green fees. The way your dollar is compared to ours it makes
it a cheap trip (US$0.62 = A$1.00). For a holiday, green fees on
our top courses would run between A$10 - A$20. After all Australia
is where Greg Norman learnt to play and he ain't half bad! Also
if you time it right you can see us keep the Americas Cup!

Welcome, Mr Bolton!
Great to hear a voice from down under - looks like word is spreading about
this notes file. Let's hope some more Aussies join in - for that matter, I
wouldn't mind seeing some other Europeans beside myself writing notes in
this file...

| Here, here!!!
I'm also glad to welcome you to this conference Mr. Bolton.
I would love to play in Australia and if I can ever afford it, I
will certainly let you know. You may be able to help us get thru
the winter with some of your stories and accounts of your rounds
during the winter. Please keep us informed.

52.6 | but it summer in Austrialia | SMLONE::SPT_BRINKLEY | | Mon Nov 24 1986 18:37 | 6 |
| Ah yes and we must remember our winter is his summer. Also isn't
Christmas time when everyone in Austrialia packs up and leaves for
about 2 or 3 weeks (wouldn't that be nice).

First of all folks, my apologies for causing all the formality
of "Mr. Bolton" - I neglected to add my first name. Call me John,
please. You're right, your winter is our summer, but our winter
permits us to play golf all year round - it is a very cold Saturday
when the temperature gets to below 50 degrees F. And you are right
again, we do pack up and leave at Xmas time - I am in fact taking
three weeks vacation myself and heading of to South Australia (
I currently live in New South Wales - Sydney) for a Xmas with my
familly and lots of golf. I would like to be able to say that I
will be thinking of you and all that snow but I will probably be
too busy keeping my head down and my left arm straight - got to
get on top of my slice somehow.
John.

Brrrrrrrr!!!!!!
Nothing could be further away from reality than golf, considering
the present weather in Sweden right now. For the past week the
temperature has not managed to go above -20C even one single time.
The all-time record of power consumption has been beaten almost
every day, the commuter trains have stopped working, 50% of all the
buses are collision-damaged, the subway is just barely functioning,
and I'm surprised every time my car starts in the morning. Now,
when I look at the thermometer I find the temperature has gone up
to -14, but it has started snowing again...
I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!!!!! Please some gentle soul, buy me a
ticket to Australia...
