-< Ancient names for clubs >-

Can anyone help me. For a while now I've been trying to find out
the names of the range of clubs available for use before they were
    called a 3 wood or a 1 iron etc..

    i.e. I believe a 3 wood is equivalent to a 'spoon'

..... no doubt these terms are the original Scotish ones.

Thanx in advance ... and what about that eagle with a wedge on the
14th by Sandy Lyle at St. Andrews in the Dunhill Cup !!!!
