We currently have a large cluster of VAX77xx systems that are CI based. We are beginning to think about upgrading (to 8400's) and want more ethernet capcity and would prefer going to PCI so that we can go with 10/100Mbit controllers. The present configuration (minimum) is as follows: XMI-0 4 CIXCD's 1 DEMNA (ethernet) 1 DEMFA (fiber) XMI-1 4 CIXCD's 1 DEMNA 1 DEMFA As you can see, in order to add a PWLPB-BA we have to add an expansion box, which we really don't want to do. We would like to remove one XMI and replace it with a PCI bus and the appropriate adapters. My question is, does VMS support both CIXCD's and CIPCA's on the same system. I'm assuming it does but want to verify it and I haven't seen it explicitly stated. For simplicity sake all CI's will be configured with all CIXCD's or all CIPCA's, even though I know you can mix them on the CI with no problems. The VMS version is currently 6.1xxx but will be at least 6.2xxx at the time of the upgrades. I guess I might as well ask about the DEMNA's and DE500's also. I assume we can mix them with no problem's, correct? We will pro- bably keep and use what we can. Thanks! Larry

Hello, CIXCD's and CIPCA's are not support at the same time in one system. Each System must be config. with only CIXCD's or CIPCA's. CIPCA is supported by OpenVMS V6.2-1H2 and subsequent hardware releases of V6.2. CIPCA is not supported by OpenVMS V7.0, but will be supported by sequent release of V7.x. Another Problem exists with the CI-Nodenumbers. For more information please read the CIPCA Adapter Release Notes PN: EK-CIPCA-RN.C01 .uwe. |
