1177.0. "MS7CC-EP & MS7CC-EH Not compatible" by TLAV02::16.158.208.47::somnuk () Tue Apr 22 1997 03:55

Dear All,

I have a 8200 rackmount system. When I add additional
1GB memory module, the system couldn't boot onto
system prompt. I notice that the one that installed
has part number MS7CC-EP. When I put the additional
1GB which has part number MS7CC-EH, the system
couldn't boot up to system prompt. Any idea???

Best Regards,
Somnuk

Check the LED on the module. If it passed selftest and is powered, the
LED will light. If the LED is not lit, the module has serious problems.
If the LED is lit, power off, pull module and check for bent pins. If
all is ok, re-install this module and pull the "known good" module.
Power up, does console come up, can you boot the machine?

Dear All,

The memory modules' led are on for both of them.
I can not go to the console since I put the second
memory module in. The system does not show the
console and all the the led of CPU is off after
putting the second 1GB memory module in. If I take
out the newly inserted memory out, everything is ok.

Still don't know why.

Thanks

Somnuk

I doubt that firmware upgrade will correct this problem. All console
revisions since the early proto consoles supported 1 gig memory
modules. If it did fix the problem then the console image in flash
    must have been corrupted.

Hi Dave,

Then probably, Digital has to ensure a better
quality assurance on the system that ships out
of the factory since this is a brand new
shipped system. It is an embarassment to customer
that newly bought system has already have problem.
And we waste our valuable customer's time.

Thank you Dave for the information.

Somnuk
